In fact, if the teachers ask you these types of questions, they are very responsible and realistic. Training programme, time and arrangement should have differences if the eventual goals are different. Some children really don't have talent in music, why pushing too much??
But it is very sad that some music teachers always wish to give false hopes to the parents by saying that your children can reach which level by next year, etc. Then, they teach things in a very examination oriented way. Always playing pieces, exam pieces, scales; reluctant to practice aural, theory, etc.
I have heard some seminars which mention that the aural training at early stage can help children to reach higher level of performance in music. But in Hong Kong, not too much teachers, parents and children are willing to spend much time in this aspect.
Talent children in music are difficult to be found while a real with heart good music teacher is also very difficult to be found.
