謝謝回應,實不相瞞,本人大女兒亦於基恩就讀,正因如此小兒取得基恩派位實無難度。而實情此問題也非現在才問,一直也在反覆思量。亦因對基恩薄有認識而15/16不知小兒是否也合適在此學習。基恩的活動教學在程度上並不深入,也只是在課室坐位安排上略有不同和有一些專題研習已矣,對於啟發小朋友的求知慾和自主性作用有限,一般的學科教授也是用傳統的教法。幸好女兒的性格安定和自顧能力強,所以在基恩的學習也尚算愉快。

相反小兒的活躍程度非似一般男孩,在級中可謂數一數二,因此憂慮他在基恩會因紀律問題而常常受罰影響他的自信。內心實在矛盾不堪 而在最近才發現此家長討論區因此有感而發看看各位有何看法而矣。

請問你囝囝讀邊間幼稚園呢? 老師都好細心喎,咁老師有無recommend邊間小學較適合?

我覺得除了國際學校外, 其實大部份小學都是傳統教學, 正如你所講, 只是課室坐位安排不同. 基恩的功課適中, 測驗考試時間也有作適當的安排, 令學生有足夠時間溫習. 我大女讀高班, 她說也有這類同學,而且學校對讀寫障礙的學生有提供支援,如延長考試時間,相信對活躍學生也會有教無類.

你兒子沒有沒做過評估, 聽下專業意見, 或者他們可以提供些方法改善一下.

原來如此! 那你兒子有沒有做過評估? 不如在入學前找個機會了解多一點, 對幫助你兒子適應新生活, 會很有幫助! 正如加菲貓所言, 除了國際學校外, 很難找到一所不需要坐定定學習的學校.

我有一位朋友是註校社工, 她曾經跟我提及她們的工作. 相信學校是會就一些有學習問題的學生, 作出一些安排. 但若你非常擔心的話, 我想你也需找一些途徑, 在課堂以外幫助你的兒子.

多謝妳回應,早前曾打電話詢問過,學校說暫時沒有位,叫我可先寫信到學校,待有位時再通知,請問應怎樣寫,有沒有插班生家長教一教我,唔該.

另一個問題是小女是細女(30/12)有否需要重讀P1,因現時就讀學校程度比較淺.

或是P2比較容易插班入讀,各位可否教路.

大家請幫忙分析,非常感謝!

我個人覺得基恩程度唔算好深, 但插班實在需要時間適應, 梗何況你女兒是細女. 是否需要重讀P1, 很難給予意見, 因為我對你女兒完無認識. 細女唔代表一定會比別人差
至於P2是否比較容易插班入讀, 我都曾經聽別人說會比較容易, 身邊都有人試過(不是基恩小學), 但都需要有升P2學生退學才會有學位, 但會退學的又會有幾人??

我想你可以嘗試寫信到學校, 起碼有一個機會.

想問為什麼要女兒轉校?

多謝妳快速回應,轉校原因女兒現讀救恩小學,學費是一大問題,但為何要入讀,說來話長-
因上年陀細b時身體出現毛病,進進出出醫院N次,每次都往上多天(最長一次17天),當時第一輪基恩不取錄,如參加大抽獎救恩話要變做後備取錄,如大抽獎入不到基恩時亦不想隨便找一間入讀,當時身體情況行動亦不便(體內有水腫60-70LB/肺積水等問題,簡直舉步難行),而救恩對我支援亦多,我入院期間女兒轉返全日班(K3時),心想如身體情況未有好轉時,救恩對我幫助十分充足,小朋友在熟悉環境下升讀小一問題亦較少(實際身體問題前後一年才好轉),最後決定暫時入讀,現身體穩定康復中,亦要面對經濟問題開始轉校.
如果沒有記錯,妳小朋友都是讀救恩幼稚園.
希望妳比多點意見,亦多謝妳在媽媽會所中西區內回覆.多謝! :

據我所知P1有小朋友轉校,但學校是否有安排就唔知,不防寫信試下!你search d topic應該有sample letter!

至於係咪重讀p1,真係好難講!但你要留意一下,我覺得讀p2可能容易d,因為學校已知有無位,但p1就要等大抽獎及註冊後至知有無位!

基恩每年都會收插班生, 但大多是暑假時舉行插班試, 然後新學期入讀, 過往低班都會收2-4個, 高班只收2個, 前年我朋友個女約6月向學校取插班申請表, 連同家長信交回, 然後等通知, 跟著7月通知筆試, 筆試一星期左右電話通知取錄, 9月就入讀P.5. 佢本身係好叻架, 佢話去考試架人都坐滿班房, 所以唔係容易架.

中途插班都有,多數是P1-2, 但一兩個, 你可以試下寫封信說明你想轉校的原因, 希望可以打動校長收佢.

Thank you for your feedback.  Sorry for this late reply as I'm away for a few days.  I'll take my son for assessment in Jan07 and hopefully find out if there is something wrong with him really.  Personally I don't prefer international schools because of the discipline problem and the lack of chinese teaching.  He's got accepted by a private school too which uses the project approach but that school is far away on the Kowloon side, so I also hesitate

Nice to meet you here.  My son has also been admitted to Kei Yan for 07/08 P.1.  Like you , I also have concern about discipline matters.  I have two sons and I would describe them as "wild".  My husband has a nicer word for them -"free" child.  They don't sit still for a long time.  They only follow instructions when they feel like.  However, they do have a strong desire to express themselves - what they like, what they don't like, what they want to do and what they don't want to.

My understanding is that boys usually need more time to learn and get used to school discipline, especially while they are still in P.1 or P.2  I read some books saying that most of them will get a lot better when they are in P.3  Not sure whether this is true or not but I just know that we've got to be patient and do whatever is necessary to help them to grow and develop.

What I have learnt during the past few years is - always be patient, patient and patient.  Learn to appreciate my child and learn the best way that they can learn.

Don't worry.  Try your best and God will do the rest.

Thanks for your sharing.  Is your elder son also in Kei Yan?  How did he do when he's in lower primary level?  My son's kindergarten teachers warn us from putting him in traditional schools, saying he's too active to be able to adjust in those schools.  I also worry a lot.  I suspect him to be a marginal case of ADHD (attention deficient hyperactivity disorder), even so, ADHD will outgrow with age, so they will be better when they are in senior primary level.  But the question is whether you are prepared to go through all the difficult moments in P1-3, and whether all the possible punishment upon him will undermine his self confidence. :cry:

It is my elder son who has been admitted to Kei Yan.  My younger son is still in kindergarten.  So, I think I have a lot to learn from you and other BK mums about school life in junior primary.

My elder son's teacher also has similar comments as your son's teacher.  She worried that my son may not be able to cope with Kei Yan's school discipline.  My husband and I are not so worried at the moment though.  We think traditional schools are more or less the same in terms of school discipline.  With a teacher/student ratio of 1 to 30+ and such a heavy curriculum, I think teachers cannot survive if they do not demand a fair degree of self-discipline from students.

I remember going to Kei Yan's open day a few months ago and I had a chance to talk to two teachers.  The impression that they gave me are very good, very kind and patient.  I think that to be frank to the teachers are important.  Tell them more about your kid and let them understand his character.  With 30+ students in the class, I would not expect the teacher to pay a lot of special attention to a particular child.  But at least let the teacher know what is going on.  I think that helps.

I also thought about international schools some time ago.  Of course, money is a concern as I have two kids.  My greater concern is actually about learning Chinese.  I think Chinese is of utmost important to our son's generation and I do not want them to lose this comparative advantage over kids from other countries.  So, that's our decision and I hope that it would be good for our sons.
