It depends on what the mother tongue of parents is, and whether the child has genius on language. If two of you talk to each other in Cantonese but English to your child, your child won't learn much since he cannot learn enough vocabulary and be able to practice talking (that means "using") in his daily life. Somehow the parents usually talk to him more on instructions (e.g. what is this? are you happy? put on your shoes, etc) and not like what you can normally communicate with other people (like gossip with your friends or secrets feeling etc). It is a disaster.
.A lot of advertisements on "golden age on learning language" - these don't apply to all babies and toddlers. They put a few successful cases on advertisements but actually there are far more cases on language delay because of this. The time to be spent on correcting these errors are double than the time you originally train your child. Toddlers reaching 1 and a half years old start to have stronger self-awareness and thrive to independence - and so become more and more difficult to correct this at later age.. |
