I don't mean they should be world record holders or olympic medallists, but I think they should be ... If a student is admitted on the category of "Athletic Recruit", his academic performance is not the same as his fellow classmates who are admitted on regular channel.
There is a formula called Academic Index which is agreed by the Ivies. The Academic Index calculates your GPA or class rank, plus the score of SAT 1 and the scores of 2 SAT II.
On average, so long as you have 1,800 SAT I, GPA of 3 or above and 2 SAT II of 650 or above, you will meet the minimum requirement. The Ivies agree not to admit any athetics of an index lower than a certain point (180?). Once you reach the threshold, you can be admitted so long as your sport performance justifies your admission.
