ORT work for my son well at pre-school stage. But when he is in primary school ORT sounds a bit boring for him. He needs more interesting stories that relate to his school life. ORT's context not fit for him at that stage. But ORT provides a good foundation for reading interest, foundation words and phonics.

ORT not work very well with my daughter as the stories not attracting to her. I don't know why.. but so this is the fact, I change my strategies, trying various kinds of books, princess series, but these book design are not good for kids, too many words in one page, kids like my daugher lost interest.

Raz kids is good for her and motivate her through level enhancements.

Curious to ask, what is ORT???
ORT=Oxford Reading Tree

It has different stories, major target readers are kindergarten and primary school readers.
One of its most popular story lines is Kipper, Biff & Chip stories. The series from stage 1-9, from pure graphic books to 40 pages stories. It also has Floppy Phonics & Magic Key Adventures.
The books are being used by many primary schools in UK.

Because of its popularity, Oxford University Press has launched another new series of Kipper Stories - The Time Traveller.  It targets for elder kids in primary school.  The stories are the extension of Magic Key Adventure & happened around 5 years after. Starts from Stage 10.

Little Miss and Mr Men series are also very interesting and inspiring to little kids. But some vocabularies may require parents help to explain. But I always treat this as a good chance to teach my kid how to use the Dictionary.

Yes, agree with you. Since I have bought a series of VCD related to the stories, that enhance her interest. So at first, I will play the Mandarin VCD on little miss, then English, then the reading. The process repeat and repeat within two weeks.

Since my girl got difficulties in reading and writing, then I have to use repeated pattern of learning and visual media to stimulate her impressions on the words.

Right.  My kid now can read books with thousand of words and fewer pictures.  Pictures will always distract their attention in reading.  She is now in P.2 but can read a thick book without many pictures.  When she comes across any difficult words, she will look up from the dictionary if times allows (real dictionary, but not the electronic ones).  If not,  no issue at all to do a wild guess...after all, coming across with difficult words won't really affect her understanding in knowing what is all about in the story...

Check dictionary may slow down the reading speed a bit. But this could made the kids learn more vocabulary in a formal manner. If the kids do a progressive reading. Time spent on checking dictionary should not be substantial.

When I read Lord of the Rings, Les Miserable and Da Vinnci Code, Sometimes I still refer to the Dictionary.
