大家好!
我孖仔都係讀緊k2,最近都看小學資料.暫時有兩三間心儀私小同直資.
大家有冇幫小朋友報d興趣班裝備下?
我地就只學畫畫同游水(是小朋友自己揀的),不想有太多.佔據太多時間,想有多d家庭時間.
有時又諗自己係咪太唔現實呢?唔要佢地學多d野又點同人爭.好矛盾!

我是已經上了岸的家長
基本上我沒有為小朋友報什麼去裝備面試小學
但事實上在考完小學後反而報了5天的課 - 鋼琴.數學,英文,畫畫,跆拳道,加上參加學校的舞道隊
原因卻是她上年暑假在家裡hea,整天在看電視,沒有辦法下,唯有叫她自己選東西學

但以過來人說,有一些小學是最好操英文,否則.....
而其他東西卻未必需要

好似ICQM,我囡囡考之前都沒有學,但都收

My daughter is also in K2.  I agree with ziyi daddy that if I would apply for other private/ DSS later this year, the training which should be necessary will be English and some PTH.

For other ECA, it wouldn't be helping much for the applications/ interviews.  You probably should had started much earlier so the children had some achievements to put into portfolio (whether this is useful is another story), or just handle this naturally and arrange for interest purposes.

is it getting some cert(e.g LCM,Trinity,Cambridge.....) or champ of competition(e.g speech /music festival....)will have higher chance of acceptance by private/DSS?

May I know which schools stress English a lot and that they use mainly English for interview? Is it that most schools use Cantonese during interviews?

What about YW, DBS, CKY?

I'm puzzled as I don't know what is consider as up-to-standard English level...

陪小朋友睇多d中英文書, 認多d字, 基本上interview睇書幾乎已係必備項目
玩下迷宮砌圖找不同, 看圖說故事, 如果??怎麼辦等, 都係近年熱門題目
另外, 禮貌同合理地外向friendly等性格, 應該由細由開始培養, 我記得我女interview完, 好心急(我都知唔應該但真係忍唔住)問做左d咩, 老師有無特別讚佢, 我女話老師讚佢主動執返d玩具, 然後我女又真係入左second round
執玩具好難咩? 我唔相信係咩難事, 問題係有無培養成一種habit而已

我都好煩呀, 仔仔本身間幼稚園有小學, 但又唔guarantee一定收佢讀小一, 間幼稚園又唔係係屋企個校網, 但又有20分, 點算???會consider去試下英華

我細女幼稚園都有小學, 亦都唔一定收番幼生, 仲要亞女咩分都無, 加上又無上興趣班, 真係堪稱"百無" , 都唔知可以點

YW - Cantonese is used in all of its interviews.

DBSPD - you can choose either Cantonese, Mandarin or English upon application.  Choosing languages other than Cantonese is said not to give any advantage.  

(Important note: please make sure you check the interview notification from the school carefully upon receipt.  Last year the school made a mistake for quite a lot of applicants, changing their interview medium from Cantonese to Mandarin and causing a lot of frustration.)

CKY - not sure as we did not apply for it.

I am not a K2 child parent or a mother, may I share my experience too?

A bit confused:

幼稚園有小學, 但又唔guarantee一定收佢讀小一
vs.
有20分

If it is a government-aided primary school, it surely has no discretion in giving places to its kindergarten, because it has to follow EDB's allocation mechanism.

If it is a DSS/private primary school, the 20 marks do not exist.

I suppose you mean you have in mind a primary school that your child is entitled to 20 marks and the primary school which has the kindergarten your child is studying does not guarantee giving your child a space.  

My suggestion is:

1. Apply for both the primary school that has the kindergarten and the government/-aided school that your child has 20 marks.

2. Pick some DSS or private schools as back-ups.  The number of schools to apply depends on how likely your child can be accepted by one of the above 2 schools.

3. If your child fails in all of the above schools, take part in the central allocation (lucky draw) stage and see if you are lucky enough to be accepted by a desired school.

4. You can still knock the doors of desired schools after the announcement of the lucky draw results.

You may also buy one of the books published for primary school applications - they have a bit more information on the schools.  As far as I know, Sing Tao, Ming Pao and Apple Daily publish such books and can be exchanged with coupons in the newspaper.

I am a father and my son went through this process last year, so I can share some experience.

1. Extra-curricular activities should not be taken just because of P1 interviews.  They are for your child's development and you should choose activities based on your child's interests and needs.  A well-balanced combination is a good starting point to consider.

2. We let my son take part in academic (English, Chinese and Maths), sports (swimming, football, table tennis) and arts/music activities at various times, because he likes learning and going to classes.  He also has some stage performance experience and took part in some speech and musical competitions to train up his self-confidence and develop his mindset towards them. I'd like to stress that my son did not take part in all of these activities at the same time, but over a period of 1-2 years and at different intervals.

2473 applicants => 150 places

Out of these places, 30 places are reserved for alumni's children and siblings (~120 applicants), so:

~2350 outsiders => 120 places, almost 20:1

A small minority does not require application fee, such as St Paul's Co-ed.

St Stephen's (Stanley) charged $250 or $300 last year.

The most important thing is interview performance, unless your child has very outstanding performance in some aspect.

I believe if your child's performance in an interview is very outstanding, you may not even need to submit a portfolio - after all, all children will be given the chance for 1st interview.

Just remember, quantity does not count.

St Paul's Co-ed:

1st int - 1st half of Oct
2nd int - 2nd half of Oct to early Nov

"Related" and Christian candidates are interviewed first in both cases.
