Basic Information
The school has a diverse student population from 18 different nationalities. One-third of students are non-Chinese.
The school has 69 teaching staff including the principal, 2 Native Speaking English teachers, 2 swimming teachers, 1 librarian and 5 teaching assistants.
Professional Leadership
The school head should look to delegate some of her duties to middle managers, who should be entrusted to carry out their roles as leaders. Ideas which are thoroughly debated are more likely to become a shared vision of the school community, building a sense of belonging for the benefit of all parties.
Learning
The language policy of the school is to use English as the medium of instruction. Cantonese and Putonghua are used as a medium to teach Chinese, based on students' readiness.
The setting up of the Campus TV creates an environment for students to communicate and share information with the whole school.
Reading to learn needs further development. In addition to the focus on cultivating a reading habit, the school could also consider stepping up efforts to help students master reading skills.
Support measures are provided to cater for learner diversity, including streaming in primary five and six. Students' learning problems could be addressed more vigorously, particularly in the implementation of remedial teaching.
Teaching
The teaching team, though relatively inexperienced, is willing to learn and is helpful to students.
Teacher's questioning techniques could be strengthened in order to provoke students' higher order thinking.
Teachers of English and Chinese adopt focused marking, where encouraging feedback is given on students’ journal writing. These measures help students to write extensively and enhance communication between teachers and students.
Student Performance
Students perform much better in English than Chinese and mathematics. The academic performance is quite diverse, especially at senior level. |
