If you are applying to Australian Int'l school, of course you put the citizenship of your child as Australia. It's not lying, it's the truth. Australians get priority to this school.
However, in my opinion with other international schools, it's really not the matter of citizenship, but I think the child's background in native language, and other languages, family background, parent's education, and background.
I do know most international schools like to accept children who speaks native English, and/or putonghua.
Top Notch int'l school like CIS ... likes kids born before june.... otherwise, waiting another year increases your chance.
