As my daughter is ESF kinder student, so we got the info from the school direct.  I think you may try to call ESF to enquire about that.

ESF kinder student DO NOT get into ESF primary school directly, though chance is higher. Pls check with your school, or some old threads here in BK

for seminar only if you know the time you can go. Normally they don't check if you have registered or not.....

My kid was accepted into K2 of WKS this coming term and I would like to know if that would put her into great disadvantage in applying for Grade 1 as she got only a few months training before interview(she's from local school). How about if she fails, is it difficult to get a place to study grade 1 in other schools? Does that mean that I need to apply for other int'l school for Grade 1 now?

hope I didn't reply too late. Yes or no. Get in ESF kinder will give you some advantage to assess ESF primary, but no guarantee. Cons is the school is quite new. I see some other threads some moms said the kinder will guarantee higher chance for interview, even that "rumor" is a real one, it is just a chance for interview.

Last year, I keep telling people to train your kid for English, anything english, especially oral plus reading. Should be good enough. No need to do extra thing like start ask your kids to write, paint, sign, dance, normally it won't help. But extra activities will train up your kids reaction of course.

Nothing. Train your kids English in all round, then pray for a chance of interview. That's it. No profile is need in ESF, this is not DBS or DGS. English is no.1 and only thing that ESF Y1 interview do care.

My friend heard that if the child knows Chinese, ESF will not offer him/her an interview. Do you hear of it?

This is a rumor that spinned my mind last year all the time before the interview. No one know if this true, and different school and different teacher may look at a kid who can speak Cantonese differently. And this is a prerequisite for ESF to take English speaking kids first (except RC & DC who didn't take subsidy from Gov't directly) so they are classified as Grade 1 then other kids as Grade 2.

To play safe, I try let my daughter to speak, read and write in english only, especially 6 months before interview around Jan next year.

Again, this is a rumor, no one can confirm. But play safe.

Hello Popolung,

I heard the rumor as well and this puts parents targeting RC or ESF schools in dilemna. Having a complete English environment does push the child's ability to possess this language but if he fails the interview ( for whatever reason ), where can he go apart from other International schools?
What was your strategy for your child previously?
