如果小朋友讀國際學校, 又想佢識中文, 係咪一定要出去補中文?

以我個人經驗，除非你的小朋友天資特別聰敏，過目不忘，否則一定要到外面補習，坊間很多這類型的補習學校。

You may try the "I love to read" and "I can read by myself"  series by Greenfield (Publisher). See the link below.

If you have time and enjoy to play with your own kids, why not work kind of tailored-made curriculum to teach Chinese writing at home.  Try the best to teach Chinese with fun .  They learn quick and forget quick.  Everyday 30 minutes Chinese writing / Chinese games at home.   Before sleeping, reading Chinese stories.  I request my girl reads 2 pages and then I read the balance when she's small.    It works.  Trust yourself.  Trust your kids.  Be patient! Children's learning ability is beyond our imagination.

In fact there's still no very effective curriculum to teach Chinese in most of international schools and tuition centres until now.  They just copied the old traditional books from Hong Kong , Taiwan, Singapore and China that's not systematic and beyond the IS children's interest sometimes.

Even my son's Putonghua is above average as he had studied in China for 3.5 years. He is now at P2 at IS. He speaks mostly English at school, both English and Cantonese at home. He likes to read only English books than Chinese books. I also give him one hour private lesson with a Beijing teacher every week in order to drill his writing/composition. I can't teach him now as I will loss my temper sometime.

I agree with what annie40 says. Make learning fun is important.
By the way, I just attended a seminar on how to help your child learn to read Chinese effectively by Dr. Tse Shek Kim. Here are some related information which you may be interested.

其實我是以我自己的經歷來說的...我見我自己的小朋友..英文不用說...中文亦可以..我自己在家沒幫上什麼..所以覺得學校有系統的教導是非常重要的...

好像讀一年班的小朋友..學校鼓勵他們看中文課外書..當然要有拼音的(他們已學曉所以國語拼音)...有同學仔上學到現在..已看了差不多500本中交課外書..這樣子..想他中文不好亦難...我自己小朋友雖然只看了40多本...亦受這同學的鼓勵..努力緊...

耀中國際學校o既中文程度比其他國際學校高,當然主因係學生國藉o既比例唔同啦.不過咁樣唔代表英文會學得唔好.
樓主可能可以考慮一下.

如果係其他國際學校o既話,就會好鼓勵讀課外書,寫簡體字(easier).不過當然視乎你所講o既識中文係咩程度啦,唔可以要求太高.

非常同意yyyy的説法。

我常常告訴女兒，每人都有自己的一份工作，她的工作就是學習和嬉戲，有不懂或不明白的，就應該自己在學校問清楚，中文或英文詞彙量若不夠，唯有多讀課外書籍，除了增長知識，同時也可補充詞彙和語法的不足....這些，不是每天一小時補習就能補回來的。
