I attended the open day held on last Sat.   I was disappointed with the English standard of the R2 students.  Most of them speak broken sentence and of course have HK accent.   Do they represent the average level of all the students?

吓！ 是這樣嗎？！假如真是如此的水平，這跟一般傳統的官津校還有甚麼分別呢？我認為， "倍僑"是家直資小學，既然收得家長的學費去辦學，就應弄點卓越的成績出來，特別是在最重要的學術成績上，而不是把講究放在美論美奐的校園設施上..... 這樣才能真正地在人家面前眼前一亮，因為大部的家長都會認為小朋友在校內能學到甚麼東西最為重要。:

haha... don't be so disappointed, i think this school is emphasis and strong in "putungha"  than english, which is better than those govt school, neither english nor 'putungha'

Thank you for you comment.

As a parent, I feel it is unfair to judge a school based on a 10 minute performance by young children, standing on a stage, in front of a room full of adults!  It takes a lot of courage for people to talk in front of others, especially in a language which is not their native one. Personally, I felt the performance was unrehearsed and spontaneous, much like what is relfected in real life, rather than drilled and prepared.

I like that the school teaches English naturally, so that students can use the language, instead of memorising it for the sake of exams.

I feel like you are strongly against this school. If you do not like the school and is not confident about them, just simply don't send your child there.

舊年我同老公都有去，小朋友的英語水平無咁差，會唔會係臨場表現失準？反而小朋友英語部份完咗，我老公私底下逗佢哋用英語傾偈，grammer 同 tense 都有錯， hk accent，但小朋友嗰種唔怕用英語，同埋好自然流露的心態，我同老公都好欣賞！

當日表演的小朋友是沒有太多事前的綵排及背誦，因為這是沒有意思，有些學校會在開放日叫學生背很多內容，表演時真係好好，但係當你問另一些問題就唔識答你，咁又有什麼意義呢?

最近，有朋友替子女升小一事宜而四處去聽簡介會，她向我說XX比培僑更好，於是決定不報培僑了！是的，有很多很多學校比培僑好，在我而言，兒子很喜歡培僑，他也學到應有的知識便可以了！

I went to the open day as well. I think the point of the student presentation is not only to demonstrate their language skills, but also to show the confidence of the kids that they built throughout the year of study in PK. I found the kids are really sharp and when I talked to one of those secondary students, I'm very impressed on their response too. As Dr Law said, buidling up language skill is the main point, (he did not mention accent of course), and I think looking at the students that were on stage, the school has proven to me their success.

若果不是身在現場是很難對上文作出評論的, 不過就上文的資料來看, 如果平常有跟外國人交談的話, 很容易發現交談時通常是用phrase, 類似 "speaking broken English", 因為口語和書面語的模式是不同的. 此外, 不同地區有不同口音, 例如英國和美國的不同省份的口音也有分別, 澳洲人也有自己的口音. 如果生活在香港, 父母並非native English speakers, 平常受廣東話薰陶, 英語不帶本地口音實際上是不可能的.

在一般商務上, 我們面對全球一體化, 要與不同國藉的人交談, 可能大家都是說英語, 但需要調節自己去適應不同口音的英語, 放開胸懷面對這不爭的事實.

I also feel that EvaYYChan's comments are not fair enough to judge a school.  As said, a local chinese kid (with local parents) speaks native english is almost impossible. Even students from famous local schools still have HK accent when they speak in english.  Unless your kids are studying at IS or I wonder which local school would able to train majority of student to speak native english?

我想補充一點, 不論各位持著甚麼觀點, 但EvaYYChan能說出自己的意見和疑問是絶對沒有問題的, 一來可引發大家對該校的認識, 思考和討論, 開闊大家的眼界; 二來從她的貼文看不出有惡意傷害的成份.

樓主可能對培僑這類直資學校期望過高,我過往都去過佢地既說明會,d小朋友的英文係ok!不過唔會講到鬼仔鬼妹o甘,都有本地口音架.培僑有收 first languages 係英文既小朋友+!如將回流番來果d小朋友,擺係briefing裡表演下,相信d家長一定眼前一亮,但o甘即係欺騙街坊.

培僑都話自己係中文小學.佢比你睇下average既小朋友既英文係o甘.如果唔係, 比d家長知道,學校走國際模式既教學方法,但教學語言以中文為主.

如果想英文好少少既本地小學(唔係國際學校),激活或者蔡繼有d英文會好d,我識有人係度讀.不過學貴就貴d,成abt50k/m.
