Re: Can anyone share the school life or comment of DBSPD
It is totally unfair to judge a school by making simple comparisons with what textbooks are used. DBS may have used books which are less difficult and I'm sure they have a purpose in it. On the other hand, does someone ever think that nowadays most schools offers way too difficult studying material for kids of that age. This robs the kids' interest to learn and study and that is what I persistently opposing.
Have the parents check on the extra-curriculum materials the kid learnt thru the year in DBS? I'm sure it will be way more than St. Paul's.
Give you an example. There 's a Geography class where a teacher following the textbook to teach and somehow found it in sufficient and he care about the students, brought in an extra book to explain the topic in more detail. At the end of the year, the children learnt a more complete picture of the topic but ironically, the teacher was being complained by the parents that he could not finished the materials in the textbook and thinking that it does not worth paying all the school fees! I'm not making a statement and I would let you decide which way do you prefer the teacher to teach and your decision will tell you which type of parents you are.
I firmly believe textbook will form a major part of studies but extra-curr. books are equally important as well. It is just that local schools tends to be bound by three things:
Competition with other schools;
Expectations from "normal parents";
EMB
DBS , IMO tends to offer something different and for those parents whose kids got enrolled should give them full support and realize it will NOT be a traditional local school approach that you are used to. However, it will offer your kid a wider scope of seeing things and a broader profile in knowlegde, which is way more important than just to finish teaching the textbook only.
