有冇人知道演藝學院初級音樂課程鋼琴考什麼?

Please share what are the requirements of Junior Music Programme of Piano and is it easy to enter?
Would anyone know how many candidates would they admit for piano each year?

My friend told me that many winners for senior grade piano in music fest. are 演藝 junior programme students- some as young as 6 years old like 沈XX last year- the overall winner for Grade 6 piano- Is it real?

It is true that a number of APA junior students are winners of HK Schools Music Festival.   But it is not a program for fresh learners in the sense that the candidate has to achieve proficiency in ABRSM graded piano exams.

You pick your own piano piece.  I don't know what grade your kid has attained.  In any case the piano piece should be able to demonstrate a fuller range of technical skills.   And the kid should be able to demonstrate a beautiful color tone when performing.

我認識的都是演藝音樂系的人(包括 degree 課程學生，junior program 學生等)，所以不是太知道其他學系的情況。但我認為佢地的水準都應該是很高。

其實如果是想唱合唱團的話，香兒都是很高水準的。

如果有媽咪想幇小朋友找教琴老師，APA 的 degree　學生是不錯選擇。他們的technical skills 很高，收費不算貴，只是$400 一個鐘頭。老實說，琴行的老師只有皇家 8 級水準，我個姪仔今年讀小六，已經有 8 級 Proficiency 成績，但我一定唔會比佢教我個小朋友 !

Why does the beginner's course not situable for fresh learners? My sons (k.3 & P.2) achieved Grade 2 merit and Grade 5 dist. piano respectively. Does the examiner like the ABRSM or music fest songs for audition purpose??

So you are talking about the pre-junior courses.   Every year there is a huge number of candidates apply for admission, they usually look at the "achievements" of the candidates before selected for test.   Try not to repeat the ABRSM pieces as your kids have already performed and being graded in the exam.   

One of the boys being admitted last year (at K.3) won the 2nd runner up (final, not the 分組) in G.1 piano of the Schools Music Festival on top of his G.2 ABRSM exam (138 marks).   He played a Bach piece which asked for jumping notes, 2 octaves but I have forgotten the name.  You might want to check with your piano teacher because it depends on whether your kid can master the song.

I would believe that having Merit in ABRSM would not be sufficient, unless his music teacher is quite well-known.  Your elder son's chance would be higher just looking at the ABRSM result.   But again, it really depends on the performance during the test. Because they look for "musicianship", a kid's talent and potential (don't ask me how as I am not a pianist).

I have prepared a Schumann and a Chopin piece for my elder son. But I have no idea for my younger son as most pieces are difficult for him.:cry:

True, as your younger son's hands are still small, it is extremely difficult for him to play steadily especially the jumping notes and also when 2 octaves are required.

Even if you look at the G2 ABRSM pieces.  The staccato is already difficult to manage well.   Perhaps you talk to your kid's piano teacher to see what's the suggestion.  

My friend's son (the K.3 kid who got admitted last year) enjoys music alot and thus he can practise a long time every day.   You know boys are less "patient" than girls.   Anyway, just take it easy and you still have time to prepare.

You can choose 2 grade 2/3 pieces(different styles) which he can handle well for your younger son la! What's opinion of your boys' piano teacher? Any support from the teacher?

BTW, just try his best la! He's still very young & there're plenty opportunities ahead. The famous pianist Eric Fung King Hei only admitted to APA when he's 10 or 11 upon recommendation of his primary school headmaster.

as far as I know, (I have some friends who graduated from junior program and now is APA students)

Junior students are have to pay both the APA and private teacher cost. APA program charge around $10K for a semester as they have to pay a lot for suppli-book/notes/master class (but please check on the web), and then they have to pay around $650/lesson (that's $2,600 at least) for your instrument privite tutor.  However, my friends were just in violin and woodwinds, none of them are in keyboard.

I guess you could ask APA for further details, as they offer scholarship as well.

佢入了演藝以後沒有再私人學琴，因為佢逄星期四(個別人唔同時間)要返去one on one 學一個鐘頭，星期六要返小組，所以唔夠時間。而且佢重有單簧管要學。

好的老師我也認識。但佢是不肯上門的。我曾嘗試合併幾個人在同一個區希望可以令到佢出來，但真是不容易。佢收$500 一小時教Grade 1 &2。但it is really value for money 。如果你有興趣 ，不如你 pm 我你住在哪區，因為太遠你都唔方便。然後我再問下個老師。

這個網站有不少教琴老師做招生，我不想大家誤會我是其中之一，以免日後發表意見不能暢所欲言。我自己是不識彈琴的。
