如果小朋友擁有葡國護照到英國大學讀書. 是否會跟本地生一樣的收收費呢??

Hi crystalwesley,

How odd that I've been looking at very question in the last two monthes as I was also planing to send my kid back to the UK for university when they finish studies in HK.

As long as Portugal is a member of the European Union (EU) which portugal is, tPortugal passport holders can pay the local university fee, which is currently around £3000 pa.  This also applies to most other EU countries (although there are one or two exception).

The only point that you need to remember is that the university student need to be in their respective country for the three years prior their university study.  

I will try to find a link to give you the most update information.

我女兒現在在澳洲讀第11班. 但現在我才知道原來持有葡國護照而16歲以下的話可以在英國公立學校免費讀書的. 但女兒到今年年尾已17歲了. 還有一年半便在澳洲完成中學階段了. 如果到時回港報讀香港的大學的機會大嗎?? (她目前的成績只是一般而已)  或者到英國讀大學又是否比海外生平呢?? 如是的話又平多小呢??請各位知情者多給意見!!!!! 唔該!!!!

Sorry cannot give comment university in Hong kong cos i've nevered studied in HK.

Even though your daughter has portugese passport she need to have stayed in portugal or uk for three year before going to university otherwise she will have to pay overseas fee which are generaly £10,000 per annnum but can rise to over £20,000 for some medical degree.  

If she finishes her study in Australia and start university striaght away in UK she would be classifed as overseas and pay the overseas fee stated above.

噢! 原來係咁! 真失望! 還以為如果在香港找不到(或入不到)好的大學的話. 可以多英國一個以本地生收費的選擇. 唉! 真失望!!!!!!

what my friend did was she find a school (just to learn english and pay roughtly around 1000 pounds per year) and stay in UK for 3 yrs, of course meanwhile she did some part time job, then after 3 yrs she applied university for local fees!

Did your friend find it hard in returning to study after 3 years away?

Another alturnative would be:
1) become and Asluym Seeker (which would be hard for us as we come from HK)
2) If you the parents/guardian of the student can prove that they generally work in the UK based company and that due to work constraints you and the family have had to relocate overseas.


Seems the second alturnative would be better option.


Luckily, I still have 7-8 years to decide on what to do, depending on my sons ability.

Thks.
My daughter is holding the EU passport.  She is 8.  Do you mean every child can get the free education in UK government schools if he/she is holding the UK or EU passport fm age 1-18?  If I want to enjoy the local university school fee, I need to send her to UK before 16 for 3 years.

Hi,

Both EU or UK passport will allow your child to study till Secondary School only.
The admission of Universities will look at more details such as parents has been a residence or not (at least to levy for 3 years). The child to study along themselves in UK is not counted. When come to university, they will look not only children but also their parents.
So either parent has to stay in UK for 3 years. I am also considering this point.

Yes,

I can confirm it is free up from the age of 4 (Nursery) up to to the age of 18 (six form i.e GCSE A-levels).  

Depending on what you earn you may also get grant on university fee (not sure if apply to EU passport though).
