It's my pleasure to perform this task and thank you and many others who support this thread. It's almost beyond my imagination that we can start to build a network and exchange ideas and info well before the academic year starts.

The next toughest task is to recognise each other in person. Shall we devise some methods so that we can be identified on the spot? Creative suggestions are most welcomed. No flowers attached on the shirt please.

A pack of Pretz in hand, maybe it will not only attract us, but also our sons. well... i should keep the big big one which i brought in Victoria Park. good idea, i agree.

As we can't bring our son to the orientation on 20 Aug, holding the Pretz packing on that day would be a good solution. :)

百力滋當然可按各自口味選擇，反正當天兒子不在。

20/8比25/6的好處是，25/6要辦的事相信不用2小時完成，到時各位可能會在不同時段到校處理，要齊集一起並不容易；20/8則是大家同時同場出現，要找人也容易一點。

同意！6月25號小朋友在場，再加上同其他小朋友又不認識，他們可能會無耐性乖乖的留在我們身邊聽我們大人傾計，還是8月20號比較自由輕鬆Ｄ！

Did they ask for return envelops? I don't remember they needed envelops in their application form. Need to check with our application records (kept as souvenirs by us:)).

Hi, All,

My younger son will be P.1 in Sept and his elder brother is in P.1 now.  As we are in exam till 9.6.  I've just noted that ThomasHa help to open this topic.

I remember that it takes within 30 mins to buy the books and registered for PTA.  They will also display the school uniforms of different companies.

I suggest you not to go sharply at 2pm.  Less people at 2:30 or 3pm.  Although we brought the boys, they will actually play together even though they don't know each other.

My suggestion is that we may also meet and chat for a while at around 230 or 3pm on 26/6.  On 20/8, it's parent time, we may have lunch together before going to the talk (at Fu Cheung Shopping Centre).

The idea of holding Pretz is agreed.

See if I can help or answer your enquiries.

In my opinion, YW is GOOD, GOOD, GOOD.  I am glad that my 2 boys are so lucky to study here and I am so lucky to be a parent in this school.

Thanks for the info.

I have just read the memo issued by YW and, for us who don't need school bus service, we need to do the following on 25/6:

1. Submit the tuition fee autopay form
2. Pay a lump sum by PPS to cover miscellaneous expenses (the memo says the amounts are payable in Sep so I am not too sure)
3. Register in PTA ($80)

We have another function on HK Island at 4 pm so we cannot stay in the school for long.

It's not just luck, but everyone's enthusiasm to make this possible.

Even if our son turns out to be in different classes, I'm sure we can still exchange info on different classes so that the best resources can be collected and given to our sons.

This format can be very useful when we meet in person and contact info is exchanged. (Thank you for your suggestion, cornelius.) At this point, I don't think we need to disclose any details openly yet. The info tabulated in my previous message only serves to summarise information disclosed openly and voluntarily so far; it does not suggest that our son's name should be disclosed in the forum.

I hope this clarifies my position. Apologies for any possible interpretation of my previous message that we should reveal our son's name openly.

因他會玩刨筆，不專心，最好每天給他5支已刨好的鉛筆
刷膠不要大大舊，因他們會用間尺切細粒來玩
任何帶回學校的東西都要有寫上名字，以免遺失，為免肉赤，不要帶貴的文具\物品回校
小食
帶足夠小食(最好是麵包\小蛋糕)，盡量避免他問其他小朋友取，避免互相傳染病菌，小食叮囑他們要在1st個小息吃(早上通常有2個小息)，避免冇胃口食lunch.

上洗手間時，要自己識處理(包括大小便及弄好校服),

因小學

經常有很多用通告，建議用zip bag 來收好，
放入書包，so 用的zip bag\folder 最好是a4 size.

水樽 - 500ml - 700ml，安全質料的，細樽頸 (若不夠水, 分開2樽)，繫著蓋(免遺失)
手挽袋，a4 size (分擔書包重量)

開學前2星期實習上學時間
早睡早起，戒午睡習慣
開始訂時間表
趁現在功課不多，開始灌輸整齊概念，train他們獨立，自己拾自己的物件\收拾. e.g.拾書包
如果帶備外套，要寫上姓名，要教他們如不著的時候放回書包
心理
預告有測驗默書,但只要努力是可以應付的

— 家課套，即透明網紋型A4/F4雙拉鍊袋，前面裝通告，裝功課及家課冊用，老師

suggest要買，唔使d功課周圍搵 (唔好用單邊開的folder，小一生會成日跌野唔見野)
— 透明File (最好印名在File上)、Clear Holder 1個入通告 (自己在家keep reference)、織布名字牌釘在外套、頸布、手巾仔等上。
— 我以過來人身份提提︰尤其係男仔，擦膠同間尺，係要一打一打咁買既，信不信由你！
— 仲有白色底衫、白襪..因每日都要換，所以我預成5或6件，怕有時自己老人痴呆唔記得洗，冬天又怕乾唔切呢

Actually a lot of the official info can be obtained by making a short phone call to the school, rather than waiting for parents to respond to this forum. Of course, useful experience can only be found outside the school, like here. :)

Sorry that my elder son have just finished his exam on Wed and I have been sick for several days.

There will be around 20 books plus workbooks to be collected on 25/6.

Concerning the things for school, I have the following comment (my comment is underlined and it's my opinion as my elder son is in P.1 now) and hope they could help you all:

There are 2 posts in this forum about nanny buses on HK Island. Have you arranged nanny bus service with the relevant promoters? I don't think the school bus service covers HK Island.

Maybe you can consider moving to W Kowloon like us in the summer vacation; in that case, you won't need the nanny bus service.

Sorry，其實我是住紅磡區的，坐西鐵也可，不過小朋友坐校車時間好像容易掌握一點。6月17號之後YW網站就會post校巴路線及車費，到時你可看看有沒有適合你的校巴路線。

I also live in Hung Hom area. We are still figuring out what the best is to take our son to school. School bus is one way, but it seems to be very early. Another choice is to take a taxi, that way we can save some time for transit. Anyone also considering this option? We can probably hire a taxi together on a regular basis. That way there might be some discount.

but the most difficult problem is about getting him back home since I know there will be a lot of ECA in YW, but looks like school bus is not taking care of this. and it is also a bit difficult to us to arrange someone to pick him up from school ... :(

It's great that we are living in the same district! Yet, I prefer taking school bus for which the time is more controllable and no need to worry too much on bad weather days too. One more thing, even if the school bus is late for school due to traffic, usually the school won't treat this as "late".

Hi all,

My son Aidan will also go to YW P.1 2011, nice to meet you all in BK.

We made some friends in BK 3 years ago when Aidan went to K1 (his schoolmates & their parents), we had a gathering in Aug to know each other and amazingly most of our kids allocated into the same class. This starts our friendships. We have lots of activities during these 3 years, and our kids become good friends, and we the parents share lots of information too! Hope this good experience will happen again!

Thanks. About $1,000 in books and workbooks.

I suppose the miscellaneous expense of $413 is payable on our own by PPS - according to the P1 new entrants memo, a lump sum is payable in advance by PPS and such expenses incurred are deducted from the lump sum when they arise.

The Pretz arrangement is valid for 20/8 but not for 25/6, as parents will probably arrive at different times on 25/6, whereas all of us will be there at the same time on 20/8.

We have not fixed the precise arrangements on 20/8 yet. Someone suggested a "preliminary" meeting at a fast-food restaurant (possibly in Fu Cheong Estate) prior to the orientation day's starting time. We would probably look less awkward holding a Pretz box in a fast food restaurant than in the hall of the school, so this may be considered a feasible option. :)
