Although I would like to keep an eye on my son as that tender age, I prefer to let him lead a life on his own.  If I am rich enough, I will fly over every three months and see how he is doing.

I've tutored numerous students from:
St. George's--the guy will go to McGill for Medicine
York House---that girl went to UC Berkeley after graduation

St. George's is the best guy school, while Crofton House is for girls.  I guess over 90% of them go to universities afterward, and some even attend schools like Harvard & Oxford.  The schools are indeed quite hard to get in, and students have quite a lot of homework, too.

The tuition fee is around $36000 per year.

If you child is a Canadian citizen, you may treat public school as a less expensive choice.  (If you're an international student, public schools still charge you a lot, yet they won't provide you much extra help.)  Do you have relatives in Canada? There's no public boarding schools in Vancouver.
If you're thinking about a religious school, you still need to go to private/independent schools.

Thanks a lot for your info.  So public school is really no good? Is the tuition fee around CAD36K or HKD36K per year?

The 36K is CND.  This includes both tuition and boarding.  The public school is not that bad.  We have good equipments and the teachers are all qualified. However, if you want to go to universities, you need to go to a public school that has an honour program (like the "A" class in many HK secondary schools).  If you dont' get into those classes, your chance of getting into uni is much lower.  Sometimes, it's hard to enroll in honour courses if you don't attend elementary schools in Canada.  After all, the seats for the honour program in our public school system are never enough.....(I guess it's the same case for US/UK/HK).  Overall, I think the public elementary school system is better than the public high school system in Canada. Still, there are many people who manage to go to university just by attending public high schools. (They hire tutors and attend extra lessons after class.)

To tell you the truth, Canadians are mostly socialists. They'd spend much money on autistic/dyslexic kids, but not as much on gifted children.  So if you believe that gifted children need more challenging works, then private schools would be your choice.

Is the tuition + boarding fee CND 36K applies to overseas students as well?  I know a mum she plans to send her son to St. Georges after P.6.  She told me the tuition fee is about HKD 70K (for Canadian citizen) and the fee for overseas students should be higher.  This is an excellent boy school in Vancouver, similar to DBS in Hong Kong.  Her nephews are studying in the school and the comments are very good.

For your information also, my hubby graduated from New wesminister sec. school, he and his HK schoolmate mostly accepted by UBC.  (But I've no infomation of the school fee now as he graduated long long time ago : )

相對於學費, 機票錢只係九牛一毛, 況且BA 全年特價飛連埋稅都係四千幾一張, 一年飛4次都係兩萬, 一個月三千都唔使窩 !

學費同 DEPOSIT 先可以叫 好多錢 .

但有沒有需要個多月回港一轉, 以前我們一去便三至四年, 畢業後才回來,  現在的細路真是寵壞了.  以前我們還要做 part-time 來做生活費. 真是為讀書而捱苦的.

你有親人未可留佢地等人幫你教仔嘮, 唔係的話d term break 係政府定架, 冇得唔放假的, 感你放佢係 guardian 度 十日->  一個月都係要計 $(appoint 個種guardian) 如 guardian 係朋友, 你又放心佢教, 又唔怕唔好意思, 當然no probleｍ啦!

做part-time, 當然好啦, 都要夠年齡先做得, 得十四-十六點有得做呢 ?  你讀大學又唔同, 成積好個d 放假都有 interm做啦, 好多有summer interm 做都唔使番來添架 !

舊時 ? 去到(讀u) 即刻去找份洗碗工做 家下 ? 冇呢d工做架喇 !

I guess the CND 36K is for international students as well.  70K HKD is just for tuition.  From the website the I posted previously, you may go to the official website of each private school.  You may want to look under admission and see their fee because it changes every year!

St. George's is really good. Not every one in this school is genius/gifted child.  However, all parents are dedicated and the children are all nicely brought up.  Students really respect their teachers. Well.. I guess the only disadvantage in this school is that some students are a bit "少爺兵" Hahah! I guess this is also the case in many private schools around the world.  Your comment that it's like DBS in Hong Kong is very legitimate! I totally agree with you.
I enjoy teaching students from St. George's because they are very good students!

When I first moved to Canada, I went back to HK every summer.  However, after 3 years or so, I began to have friends and wanted to stay in Vancouver instead.  I guess going back to HK too often may not be the best way to go...After all, if you leave your classmates every time there's a holiday, you'll miss a lot.  When you come back from HK, you'll notice that there's a distance between you and your friends.....
