資優生,多數讀緊邊間小學??

Dear Dr. T,

My son is 4 years and 8 months old. He has very good analysis skill and good memory and quite creative in his thinking and according to his teachers at his extracurriculum classes and also a lot of other friends and family, he is very "smart". However, his teacher at his kindergarten only commented him as average and need improvement in a lot of areas, he also does not show much interest in going to school. He does not have behavour problem, just a but emotional at times. So I would like to find some ways to really understand how to best support him and nurture him, one way seems to be to take him to an IQ test. Any comment you could offer? is he at the right age for an IQ test? and where should I go for these kind of test?

Dear Parents

資優生is just a label.  I sincerely trust that as parents, we should apply the same dedication in raising our child whether or not they are 資優生.  

In the modern society, we are too pre-occupied with labels.  In fact, label is just a label.  We should treat all of them as if they were 資優生 and give them our care and attention.

Zhou Zhou (famous retarded conductor in China) parents taught him music as if he was 資優生 and never gave up on him and he later attained great achievements in the music arena.

In education, we have a saying "If you know how to teach, then all students are equal".  

To answer the question, I like the style of DBSPD.  Although they do not yet have a gifted program, the DBS way of education does support this concept even when I was there in the 1980s.

Hi wendylimb,

I did hand the gifted report when I applied P.1.  I'm not sure there are cause and effect.  Maybe have some.  But I think the most key point is the interview test.  Totally 7 pages.  My son did it well as I know.

Your son applied P.1 or P.2?

Different gifted kid suit to different school type.  It's better to ask for suggestion when you did the IQ test with the eductational psychologist.  As I did.

The educational psychologist suggested me to chose some traditional school with high academic standard to my son.

The schools you mentioned are new, low pressure and good schools.  But they may not suitable for every kid.  I don't know the characteristic of your kid.  Sorry for limtied suggestions.
