For Type409 and other parents:
Yes Canadian starts from K1, but with 40 spots only, usually taken by staff kids etc.; even parents with sibling priority have difficulties obtaining a spot. The mass intake is at K2 with 80 additional spots, so for parents who want to conserve application fees & energy, it is best to apply at K2.
Also, it is becoming more difficult for ppl without Canadian citizenship to even get an assessment (not to say a spot!), as there are more and more applications and the seats are taken by ppl with citizenship priority, so i guess the school sees no point in interviewing non-citizens... but then, if parents are really keen, it never hurts to try. This year i know at least one non-Cdn citizen getting in, who applied long long time ago.
