UK day school

大家好。

我計劃幾年後帶女兒到英國讀書，到時大女兒讀grade 7, 小女兒讀grade 3。現在女兒在香港讀國際學校，行IB，成績中上。

雖然還有兩三年時間，但想早一點準備好資料。可惜看過這裡的留言和英國的school ranking，還是一頭冒水。所以想請教各位的經驗，如何在step 1開始選擇學校，現在因為範圍實在太大，無從入手。

女兒將以settlement visa到英國，所以可以讀state school。而我們也會一起到英居住，所以會選擇day school。

至於state school和independent school, 以我看school ranking, 前列的多是independent school. 我其實最想女兒入的學校，最重要校風純樸，女兒不要學壞，學術成績中等就OK。state school免費，找到好的當然好，否則入independent school也可以。地區我們暫時想到是南部kent，民風和治安好像好一點。最好是離倫敦個多小時火車的地方。我們會先找到學校才決定定居的地方。

如果先從state school入手，大家有沒有經驗如何選擇。入學是否要考試？因我在網站看過，state school好像是你住那區就報那間。那是否一定收？我怕我們初到貴境，會被派到不知什麼學校去。state school有考入的嗎？

如果不想被是但派入一間state school, 要找independent school, 以大家的經驗，會從哪開始short list呢？

如果你的目標是KENT的話,可以到英國媽媽會找一找有沒有人住在KENT,然後問一下有哪些比較好的學校,再emil去這個學校問下如何報讀, 但照我的經驗, 應該是來到這裡住下,有了地址才能申請學校。然後也不一定收你的, 好的學校都是爭磞頭的, 他會看你的條件收生的,通常都沒有考入的,會看你之前(香港)的成績。

謝謝回覆。我在想到英國前可以先有學校收，我們也會在學校附近定居。那樣會安心一點，否則我們來到才找學校，未必會找到心儀的。那可能要選擇independent school了。

你小朋友幾大？雖然還有幾年時間，但真想早一點做定準備。我自己拿英國公民護照，但女兒在香港出世，所以到時要替她們和丈夫申請settlement visa，但上網望，都唔知幾時申請好。另外，看孩子入藉的申請也看得好迷惘。home office 說有機會一申請就是永居，但又未必一定。然後對住幾多年才能入藉也好迷惘，home office website說三年，但又見有網友說會改例到5年。然後老公又未必一定拿到visa，再要找學校地方居住。迷惘中。

你是有親友在kent? 我暫時傾向這區，一是問了朋友和網上看到，這區治安民風好像不錯。另外就是比較近倫敦，方便一點。

我d小朋友過兩年會過去讀Y7&Y9,而我諗往搞移民過去，我都無人無物響英國，上網睇人話Surrey/Kent治安好，好學校又多，,到時我一個帶三個，老公留響hk做嘢,最少要留5年先攞到永居,都有少少驚搞唔掂

State schools 沒法給意見。
Independent schools 你可考慮 Junior King's School, Canterbury.. 到時你兩個女兒可以讀同一間學校。到她們十三歲又有機會上 King's School Canterbury.
Canterbury 在 Kent, 有特快火車一小時可到倫敦，而且地方環境優美，直得考慮。

You may try St. Olave & St. Saviour's Grammar School which is located in Kent.  

My friend has very good comments on this state school as her girl studies here.

In Kent, the monthly rental is around 900 pounds per month for an apartment.

As far as I know, my friend's school girl studied F.6 in this school.

For day and boarding state schools, I only have very limited knowledge so I am sorry that I don't have knowledge about state schools in Surrey.

In Kent, there are several independent schools such as Tonbridge and King's School Canterbury which have excellent word-of-mouth comments. However, the school fee of these independent schools exceeds 31,000 pounds per year.

Any other good Coeducational independent schools to recommend of ranking within 70 for Grade 8?  Tks.

Ranking can vary year after year, but I think you should consider Sevenoaks & Oundle as well.

Tks but the ranking of Sevenoaks is undesirable that I will not consider.

Sevenoaks is a very top school in IB, just that the majority in Uk is still A Level and therefore its ranking seems low in some ranking tables. you can search ranking of IB schools

yes 剛看了些top 100 ranking的學校，independent schools 實在很貴。例如看到benenden school, 看網頁介紹都幾鍾意，也是在心儀居住的地區，但學費是三萬幾磅一年，out budget了，兩個女兒加起來，負擔不起。

記憶中，kent有較多好的公立學校，但私立的很貴，可能因為近倫敦。
有些私立學校是有foundation支持的，學費會較廉宜，甚至會有獎學金，水準仍然很高，可以找kent有沒有這些學校。
我們找學校是由南部向中部找，通常愈北學費愈平，中部其實都可以考慮，因為往機場的時間與kent相約，例如king's high學費約10,500鎊一年。

長氣提提會來英國租屋家庭，將來退租時**一定**要同agent一齊check out，佢地有啲會好離譜，諸多理由去扣哂訂金，見過唔少人中招。
