Agree with you. I still remember when I was trying to find a kinder for my son, my mother advised me to find one strong in academic as she did not want to see me coached my son in a hard way when my son turned to P.1. My sister and two of my friends do have very bad experience after their daughters finished the three years "happy kinder".
Anyway, I think after setting a good attitude, moding the kids with interest in learning, there should be no major problem to P.1 at all.
My son is just P.1, I found that there is one point parents must pay attention. There are so many parents welcome the school to use PTH to teach Chinese. I have reservation on this point. My son's school is an English School which uses PTH and English as the teaching medium. If not I always think that children should start learning language earlier and so I equipped my son's PTH when he was still very yound, I do think he would have big problem to start his primary school life. According to my son's PTH tutor, the school used 4 weeks to finish the basic PTH "phonics" up to P.2 standard. I have no idea about this as I do not know PTH. What a shock to me. Some of my son's classmates have to follow up on PTH in a hard way. I wonder if they could do it well given the school teaches it in such a quick pace.
