在年多前在EK討論過減免學分，及對GPA的影響。
今次轉少少話題，如果減免學分到Max，大學提議你孩子直入第2年，你會點建議他？原因？

進可攻退可守，如果读唔切可以deder半年。如果去exchange最好defer,就唔使咁急。其实直入year 2 更方便去exchange, 如果入year 1 加exchange 要defer可能要4.5年才可畢业。

當然攞advance standing 再读4年就就最抒服。大学不是專科学校，除了本專业外，还有很多知识去探索。

各有優点，看自己的取向。

另year one的course唔計honors，如果为拉高gpa而读，读一些已識的东西並不值得。

Are we talking about universities in Hong Kong? All the programmes I know count first years courses towards honours classification. I won't pretend to know the regulations for all programmes, of course.

73662710 I have no idear about the 3 year programme, but for the 4 year programme, the first year serves as foundation year and the gpa of the majority of the courses, if not all, does not contribute to honor. 發表於 13-8-5 14:15

That's our understanding as well.
Not confirm yet, some programs only count Yr 3&4 for Honour degree.

I did the homework about honours classification in 3 of the universities for the 4 year programmes.

HKU (with the exception of some medical degrees):

Honours classifications shall be awarded in five divisions: First Class Honours, Second Class Honours Division One, Second Class Honours Division Two, Third Class Honours, and Pass. The classification of honours shall be determined by the Board of Examiners for the degree in accordance with the following Cumulative GPA scores, with all courses taken (including failed courses) carrying equal weighting...

UST:

The classification of awards is based on students’ GGAs. The GGA is based on the CGA calculated at the end of the term for which the student is placed on the list of pending graduates.

Students may request that graded courses included in the calculation of the graduation CGA are excluded from this calculation to improve their GGA. Exclusion of graded courses is subject to the following conditions:

i. No course required for the award of the student’s degree may be excluded
ii. No more than 12 credits may be excluded

In computing the GGA, courses taken in the first year of study of a four-year degree are given a half-weight. Students who enter the University with credit transfer of 10 credits or more are not eligible for this half-weight concession.

(Note that the minimum credit requirement is 120.)

CUHK is a different story as they basically only count those courses in the major.

正是，因為你們是過來人或幫過其他人吧！

今日多咗好多資料，要慢慢消化，間間U都有不同考量。
原來類似情況有兩種，
1 Direct Entry,
2 Early graduation with advanced standing.
不同學院有不同做法及考慮，加埋exchange program, 有不少變化。

I know HKU will count all common core course in GPA calculation. Just don't know the situation in CU and UST before reading this thread
