I did not consider TT from the start because the TT nursery is way too expensive up to $9000+ per month. I think most playgroup/nursery do similar things and I don't think it worth such hefty sum.

I just join anfied summer course for my 10 months old boy. And he will start pg there in this sept as well

Hi OneOneMama,

Your baby is 10 mths old now? How can you apply PG now at Anfield? As I contacted the staff at Anfield, they just ask me to apply PG in end of Sep while my son is turning to one in this June.

Yes. TT has a track record hiring native english speakers who have no teaching experience or background at all. I met a guy who taught there and he was a sushi chef back in Canada.

If you are also targeting ESF kindy, why not try their playgroup? No priority but definitely gives you an advantage during interview.

I may apply ESF PG later in Sep. But just worry if no vacancy in ESF / Anfield / David E. for my son, and at the end 兩頭唔到岸......

My daughter is studying TT playgroup in Salfolk (NOT Dorest). The teachers are great, the english teacher, Mr. N. , studied psychology in USA and education in HK, he taught more than two years, and the mandarin teacher Ms. W.  studied education in Mainland China. They can remember every student name, also they will give parent a report for their observation. they will help the kids to play even this is a free time.

But honestly, the playgroup is so standard, they sing songs, tell story and free play. In an one and half hour, the kids can't learn much, as the fee is experience.

No priority. Just u never know if policy change in future, and let the kid familiar with the environment is another advantage

For me I won't bother travelling all the way to join the ESF playgroup if  there is no priority. It's very cumbersome to travel with a 1-2 yo.

No priority for sure. What I meant is, if your child's interview performance is the same as another child and there is only one spot, your child will have an advantage over the other one if he has been in the Esf playgroup while the other hasn't.

Hahahah. Agree. But there ARE parents who would travel from Yuen Long to Wanchai just for a 2-hr class

Let me share my experience at TT Dorsett. I joined when my son was 1y3 months (for 5 months) and quitted. The Mandarin teacher Ms C is very committed and remembers all children's names and during activity time, she would come and speak to each child to make sure they have "language exposure" (only for 2-3 mins as she needs to walk around and talk to 10 kids). She is a good teacher but just limited by time. As for English teacher Ms H, during activity time, she would like walk around, drink water and chat with 1-2 parents which makes me very annoyed because I am paying for HK$550-700 per lesson and there is no genuine language environment.

I can only say that one good thing is that they provide good snacks, have a nice and modern play area (i.e like gym) and their arts/craft is quite fun for my son as he enjoys painting around. Otherwise, the other activities are just playing with wooden blocks or play with dry pasta etc nothing special and you can do it at home.

I quit in the end feeling the PG is overpriced and teachers not offering full language exposure to kids.

Yes, you can tell quickly whether a teacher is committed and has heart at all I think that really makes huge difference. The school just provide hardware.

Can't agree more! TT playgroup, my feeling is overpriced.
