RC is definitely happier, only that their Chinese is of course not so good as local school as they only have about 20% time learning in Chinese.

Normally local Chinese will choose MCS.  Guess you will too.  From a MCS parent I know, the students mostly take after school tutor classes for English to keep high standard.  So you may need to consider hiring native English teachers for after school English classes as well.  Competition among students in famous school is very keen, as expected.

However, it is not easy to re-enter RC or other IS again after studying in MCS primary for 5 to 6 years.  My friend's daughter has tried but did not succeed.  So you have to make up your mind which way to go.

I think if your family are all local chinese and you don't plan to send your daughter to study overseas early (i mean from secondary school), MCS might be a good choice.  I have 2 counsin sisters studied from P1 to F6 there and both of them enjoyed the school life very much, of course they had pressure from test or exam just like other local students, as I see they have quite good english level.  Also don't forget it's totally free of charge for 12 yrs ar.....
but of course there are still many good things for IS, eg. not much pressure, explore more other than school books, better english, kids definite like IS more....
it's really a difficult choice for you.....

i have chosen MCS for my girl after many sleepless nights after receiving the balloting result for the following reasons:

1.  my girl is very active and outspoken but she's also pretty discipline when it comes to doing homework and taking care of her own schedule and stuff because she studies in a local kindergarten.  so i think she can cope with the teaching style of traditional local school

2.  definitely better Chinese learning environment.

3.  standard of English is also good.

4.  homework and test are not too excessive (for yr 1 & 2 only but i don't know for the years above) and competition is not as severe as other elite school

5.  understand that MCS starts to put more emphasis on reading in place of traditonal homework such as copying and memorising (but i think they would get resistance from parents who believe more homework = better learning)

6.   my firends' overall comments are that the teachers are very patient and willing to pay extra time to help students to adapt to the school and catch up in weak areas

i have to admit that giving up RC is a painful decision for us.  i agree with Steamball that it's important to consider which style would fit your daughter more and what do you want for your girl's future education.  many students study and learn happily at local schools.

Thanks very much for all your comments. I don't know whether it is right if I put it in this way say : 'MCS is one of the top traditional schools whereas RC is not one of the top IS in HK, to be more realistic, should I choose MCS.' To be honest, I may go for GSIS if they accept my daughter.

If I wish my daughter to get in one of the top Universities in the UK or US, would IB be easier for her?

Thank you again for your comments.

The answer is written in your email - chosse MCS or go to knock on the door of GSIS.

An excellent SAT score it the key to enrol in Ivy League or other top notch universities in the states. IB is only one of the ways.

No need to bother any. Case closed.
