SMC has a very unique interview and offer timetable and therefore many parents are asked to respond to the offer in a very short timeframe.
I hope this sharing will help those parents understand more about the school and therefore find a suitable school for your child.
School hours: 8:15a.m. – 2:40p.m. (Mon – Thu) 8:15a.m. – 3:20p.m. (Fri)
This is a through train school. So students will spend 12 years in this school
SMC does not participate in the secondary school place allocation system, so you can only ‘knock the door’ if you want your child to study in other secondary schools
Class structure: - 2 classes (around 66 students) on each form in Primary School - P.1 – P.2 divided into 3 groups - So a student may be in English Group 1, Chinese Group 3 and Maths Group 2. P.3-P.4
Chinese, Eng, Math and General Studies – 2 classes into 3 groups. P.5-P.6 - Chinese, Eng, Math, Integrated Science and Liberal Studies – 2 classes into 3 groups. Grouping will be reassigned after first exam depends on exam results

Phonetics from P.5-P.6 -Inter-class Eng Drama competition every year and everyone will perform -P.4-P.6 students must take Cambridge exam to get a benchmark (not sure if the cost is borne by parents or school) About Grammar
1. SMC不是不教GRAMMAR, 只係初小時會inductive approach, 佢地用校本教材, 好似有一個UNIT係講superhero, 其實係教緊佢地點樣用adjective 去形容superhero嘅外觀同超能力, 又會教action words 去寫D superhero點樣打怪獸, 所以佢地唔會有本Grammar exercise,今個chapter教tense, 下一個教infinitive咁拆開尼教, 而係包括左響每個UNIT入面. 佢地都要考regular and irregular past tense, sentence structure etc.
2. Starting from P.5 to P.6, there will be more explicit teaching of grammar.
Chinese -普教中, 2013開始小一教弟子規同三字經 -Use textbooks of the same level
General Stuides and Mathematics - nothing special - use ordinary text books
Modern Languages: P.1 & P.2 – trial for German, Spanish, Japanese and French (1 lesson per week, 6-8 week per language per year) P.3 onwards – have to select 1 languange.
3 lessons per week All students need to sit in a recognised public exam at F.1 Study tours starting from P.5
Religious studies -Lessons every week to learn bible -School opening and closing mass, Christmas Mass.Complusory attendance
Life education -One lesson per week.
The only lesson that may be in Cantonese -Teach students like punctuality, forgiveness, appreciate others, environment protection etc.
Other characteristics P.1-P.2 Dance /Dramatic Arts P.3-P.6 Dance / Performing Arts P.3-P.4 Reading to Learn / Oral
Not in most primary schools Because SMC is a DSS, there is flexibility on school cirriculum. Therefore, starting from P.5, students will not have General Studies, but Liberal Studies and Integrated Science.
Liberal Studies -Starting from P.5 – 2 lessons per week – use secondary text books
Integrated Science -Starting from P.5 – 3 lessons per week
