Thanks for your reply regarding the P1 curriculum. It really comforts me when I know that TSL teacher would help them to memorize the Chinese characters.
For Kumon Chinese, I let my daugher tried 2 weeks during their free tiral period (I think the promotion is twice a year). At that time, my daughter was studying Kumon Eng. I found that it would be too much for her if I start the 2 subjects together. I decided to let her continue Kumon English.
My personal experience is that my daughter established a very good habit in reading and writing during her learning of English. Kumon's spirit is to let the children to learn by themselves. Therefore, the teacher is not so important as she / he will not teach your kids. They are the facilitator and help to develop the development (progress) program for the kids.
My personal opinion is if you would like to let your kid develop a reading habit, it would be good choice for Kumon. Also, they could recognize many words in a period of time due to the repitition of the exercises. However, when it comes to a stage that the level is far ahead from that the kids's age could handle, you need to stop that for awhile. Like me, I just decided to stop Kumon Eng this month. It really a bit hard for my daughter (just 5 years old) to memorize so many vocabruary. I decided to let her suspend a month or two. Let her feel more relaxed to catch up the class. I would let her learn on her own pace for the large amount of vocabruary.
Well... it really depends on what you would like to achieve. To improve school results, I think private tutorship would be more effective. If you would like your kids to learn a bit ahead, you could choose Kumon.
