The girl is doing quite well & studying happily in her primary school, SFCS, ranking about 10-15 in the year and should have no problem in promoting to SFCC.
Having heard that SFCC is not as strong as other 'top' schools in terms of academic aspects (not sure if it is the case), any comments as to the pos & cons for the attempt to get into others girls' schools like Belilios, Ying Wa, Marymount, St Stephen's etc in the discretionary stage? Thanks

It's a very good school.  But if you fancy other band 1 schools on HK Island and your girl is ok with that.  Doesn't hurt to try.

I am not 'fancy' about other band 1 schools but solely consider the matter to the 'best' interest of the girl.No doubt SFCC is a very good school.

As said, i've no idea how true the statement SFCC's academic aspects are not as good as the others as named schools. If the difference is not that material, we will save the hassle to attempt for the discretionary place. The 'dilemma' is that say somehow  she manages to get into another school at the discretionary stage (but indeed such academic difference is not much) there may be adverse impact on her study as she may need time & effort to adopt to the new school & make new friends. The fact is that she is studying very happily in the present school and has already had good friends there. She is likely to put the blame on us in such 'misfortunate' event. Further, I think we are bound to accept the discretionary place offer but is only known at the end of the day.  So there may be 'harm' or risk in such connection.

Why not ask your daughter of her wish?

PS: I was a Francisian from P1-F7.  At that time when in P6, all the girls' target are SFCC only, because we considered ourselves a family! Even the top girls would stay in SFCC.

For sure you would imagine to get a simple and straight-forward answer from her. Whilst we tend to follow the same so as to avoid such situation as mentioned earlier, equally it is good to see the reply from the past student showing the unity & support of her mother school. Nonetheless,  i also learnt that nowsadays some 'top' students did switch to other schools (for reasons i'm not sure, perhaps different case by case),  i just wish to make an "informed" decision in the given circumstances. Thanks anyway.

為何很多人會覺得SFCC成績下降, 因為中學部收了小學部一些成績屬band 2的學生, 由於小學乃直屬小學, 中學部是沒有得選擇, 至於中學的學生成績是很參差的, 因為外來的學生一定是band 1的, 如非band 1 學校也不會收.
小女現年讀中二是由小學部直上中學部的, 而她在小學的成績是不錯(全級150人約考15), 我沒有幫她選其他學校, 但現在我沒有後悔, 覺得完全正確, 因為她的中學生活很開心,

Discuss throughly with your daughter, explain to her all the aspects of choosing SFCS & choosing other Schools and make the decision together.

If the rationale is due to the taking of some band 2 students from her primary school, it appears to me that in general all secondary schools with such 'feeder'  relationship like Marymount, St Stephen's, Maryknoll or even La Salle shall encounter the same problem.
Anyhow, if we now consider to stick to SFCC, does it mean that we can 'ignore' the discretionary stage? Thanks
