RC vs SJS P1

請問有冇人讀過馬鞍山RC及/或沙田SJS/SC，或者有冇經驗可以分享下？嚟緊想試下同小朋友報學校，但唔知點選擇。

本人有哥哥正讀梗RC, 想幫妹妹報SJS, 再帶哥哥轉校，如有幸入到，要遊說哥哥轉校並不容易，作為父母除了帶佢哋實地觀察 (外觀上RC明顯新很多)，但心明學校既歷史有佢既價值，除了學校IB results可以比較，對於佢既師資，耐心情度，硬件設施和科程既分別始終不是很了解，所以想請教用家既寶貴意見。

其實已不知從何時開始（有說是上學年），RC學生轉往SC是transfer而不用apply的了；不過這是中學情況，小學是否一樣就不知道。

哥哥自己的學習動力怎樣？在學校裡有發揮機會嗎？轉校不應只考慮學校的track record, 而是要睇自己孩子的位置會被放在那(emoji)。如果本身成績已經好好，才不妨考慮到哪校可以推動他更上一層。

因為哥哥還是在小學，暫時都唔確定佢既能力喺邊方面。但佢肯定係喜歡RC既，問佢點解，都只能講因為有朋友陪佢玩。從佢平常學習既態度，遇著佢有興趣既科題如科學和數學，佢會好有心機去做，但正如好多國際校校學生一樣，對中文學習會很不願意。

哥哥讀RC, 妹妹報SJS有沒有priority?  如果沒有，會不會兩間都入唔到？

有的，sibling priority 唔係計佢讀邊間。只係foreign passport and HK PR 會有分別。RC 同SJS 有唔同教育局收生要求。

以我所知同一學校才有priority , 有冇打電話去問清楚admin

有，直接問RC admin mgr, SJS 聽日有school tour, 再問埋，但我相信唔會有分別。

On RCHK website:

"The siblings of students already attending an ESF primary or secondary school, private independent school (PIS) or Jockey Club Sarah Roe School;"

我自己認識幾個人， RC 轉 STC/SJS ， SJS/STC 轉 RC 也有。
全部係自己和學校協商，再轉介去另一學校，不用申請。
但近兩年 ESF 整頓 admission procedure ，首先，已經改了 one form for all schools ，
所以不知是否仍然咁 flexible 。

Thks. I just saw the following in the esf edu website. Guess it is the official answer for the definition of priority.

我嘅經驗係妹妹而家未入小學但哥哥讀緊RC，咁妹妹考小學喺RC有sibling priority, 但喺SJS係冇。但如果妹妹入到SJS, 咁哥哥喺RC轉過去就有sibling priority.

Thanks for clarification, I will double confirm with SJS today. If it is really the case, our decision is much easier. No one school is better out the other, I have searched all posts in EK about the comparison of the two. To be honest, after reading all these,  there is no overiding factor. I do think traveling distance is important to us but not the same to many parents. Better track record is a solid point without deny to many parents, it at least gives us some level of implication  about the teachers' quality. However, when it may not be a magic wand to everyone. Still heavily rely on the kid's personal learning attitude and how teachers inspire the children to explore by themselves. My friends' kids studied in other IS or STC, they are all different, two of them end up with getting very good IB results and they are more self motivated with high level of self management on study. That may not be purely a result of one school which was doing better but the thinking of parents and peers, family support that really made a difference to a kid. Anyway, appreciated all advice here.

好似自從改左one form之後轉左，而家冇分，哥哥係RC, 妹妹申請SJS都有priority.

我見多是哥哥姐姐在RC讀完year 6才轉去STC讀year 7，弟弟妺妹就在SJS.  因為好多同學一起轉校，小孩比較容易接受。兩間都是好好的學校，分別可能是中文環境，RC小孩比較願意講中文，SJS小孩一般只講英文。

係學校情況我唔知，不過平時我送我個仔等校巴返學時，我見SJS學生主要用英文交談，RC學生就用廣東話

I wish this was true as I would love for my son (who goes to RC) to be able to understand and speak Cantonese! I literally have to force him to watch Cantonese cartoons at home. He is improving but yeah, I haven't heard his friends speak in any language other than in English and I go to his school several times a week.

我有 nephew 在 RC ，基本上全英語，學校中文課也是普通話。
IB 有 policy ，不能禁止學生說某語言，所以 IB school 不能叫學生不講廣東話 / 中文。
所以，肯唔肯講，始終是看學生和家長，家長要努力 encourage 孩子多說廣東話。
識多一個 dialect 好呀。
朋友女兒某年在美國做 summer intern ，全部 intern 得佢一個 intern 係華人， 老外 manager 去見華人客，問朋友女兒會否 speak mandarin ，女孩話會說一點，咁 manager 就帶埋佢見客，去到原來客人是一個廣州女人，女孩用廣東話和她 greeting ，客人好開心 。
另其他朋友的孩子也有類似經驗，原來識廣東話，工作上也有用。
小女小兒是 STC 畢業，我一直都 encourage 他們多講廣東話。
小兒不是成功例子，他會講，但特別不肯講。
小女則性格較開朗，肯講廣東話，中文報紙也看到 7 成。
識多一個語文 / dialect ，絕對是 something additional。
學校是否 inspiring 或 encouraging 也不要緊，家長自己努力多一點。
