ESF Kindy priority > SiblingsIf you are aiming for SJS, BHS, KJS, then you probably wanna go to ESF Kindy to secure the kindy priority first, and within the pool you go even further front with your siblings priority. Otherwise, sibling priority should be good enough to secure a place in any ESF primary.
Well it shouldn't come as a surprise. KJS/SJS are international schools, and they need 70% foreign passport holders as a minimum. If there aren't enough FP kindy kids, then they will admit non-kindy FP kids to make the numbers.
DC and RC will absorb those as they are PIS. ESF guarantee a primary school place, but not necessarily your first choice. Only the new Renaissance and Kornhill kindy will be guaranteed a place in certain primary school.
There have been cases where ESF kindy kid with NR but without FP, still couldn't get into SJS.

I wonder if ESF kindy + nonFP + alumni can get into SJS? The reason why not all INR holders could get in is because each school has an INR quota, then alumni priority is basically the next one. Anyone know if there have been precedent cases?
I mean there are non FP kindy who can get into other ESF schools which require 70% FP and this makes me wonder why popular schools like KJS and sjs use FP as a way to screen out students while those other schools don’t seem to have an issue admitting more non FP kindy
ESF Kindy kids without FP have gotten into SJS and KJS without any other priorities. When you apply via central application, it also depends on your luck as they choose via your random application number.
It's supply and demand. The old system limited your choice of schools by your address. There are more ESF primary schools on HK Island but HK Island has smaller population than Kowloon & NT. Students in Peak/Glenealy tended to be primarily FP holders so it was easier for non FP holders to get a place there if they couldnlt get a place in SJS/KJS.
Now even without the school zoning, people living in Kowloon/NT still prefer ESF schools in Kowloon/NT due to travel time and availability of school buses.
Non FP ESF Kindy kids can get into SJS/KJS, just that the competition is more fierce. With 5 classes entry, there are only 45 or less places for non FP holders. These will be taken by ESF Kindy kids/Siblings/NR/Other priorities and depends on your luck with random application number.
