Question about ESF Kindergarten (Tsing Yi)

ESF KG usually adopts the rule of 'first come first serve' policy in admitting a student.  However, you should have noticed there is a change in this year as according to their website.  It said the application for 2007K1 should be submitted only after Oct 1st and all application would be returned if it is submitted before that day.
My friends did submit the application forms in early 2006 but their forms were not rejected because the policy has changed recently.  There are two batches of applications now: i) submitted in early 2006 before the policy change; and ii) submitted after Oct 1st according to the new policy.
The school has yet to make the decision but for sure no interview will be arranged.  It is believed that a 'lottery' will be held to decide who is the lucky kid.  SO I STRONGLY ADVISE THOSE PARENTS WHO HAVE SUBMITTED THE APPLICATION TO ESF KG TO FIND A RESERVE PLACE IN OTHER SCHOOLS.  DON'T RELY ON LUCK

重有, ESF KINDER 只係兩年的幼稚園, 如要讀本地小學, 要再讀多一年本地 KINDER 先得.

Hi Demio,

I'm also applying ESF KG (Tsing Yi) and would like to know more about:

- besides English, will they learn any other language?
- do u think the student can apply traditional school or only follow Interntational School?
- what is the next step after ESF secondary? study aboard? can apply Hong Kong University?
- i heard some people said the discipline is not so "control", a bit more loose, it that true?

I have some hesitation for my daughter to study Internationa School (although they may not offer a seat!!) as Cantonese is the main language at home ..

Please share your valuable experience...

==> I think the student can apply for traditional school as long as you meet with the requirements

==> I can say yes as their classrooms are divided by partition and no table/chair for them. they sit on the floor and can run around the classroom.

If you have hesitation for your daughter to study International School, e.g. ESF, why don't you apply first, then they will allocate a time for those 'potential students' parents' to visit the premises.  by that time, you can ask your questions and raise your concerns to the teachers and I think they can give you some advice.

For your info, my son did not speak chinese that's why he can get along with the teacher very well.  I think you need to ensure your daughter that at least she can communicate in simple english as ESF does not 'teach' english same as the traditional Kinder does not 'teach' cantonese.

- do u think the graduate from ESF secondary is competitve enough to get a seat at HK University e.g. HKU or better say adopt to the learning environment?

- what kind of language is your son normally speaking at home? also all English? or half Englisg & half Cantonese?

- Any other alternative if ESF Primary is not offer a seat after ESF KG? i think it is hard to go back to traditional local school because of the leaning style is different?

- Can u share the comment on how to choose between "International" & "Traditional LOcal" school?

However, the fact is that most IS graduates did not go to the local universities. You may refer to the messages under the topic "Where did the graduates go?" for your reference.

==> whether graduates are competitive enough or not depends on their academic results.  as far as I know, some graduates from international school do continue to study in HK universities instead of studying abroad.  They can adopt the learning environment easily as they used to study under the same environment, e.g. working as a group for a project, present in front of the class, etc.

==> I choose international school for my son as I don't want him to study under pressure; I want him to learn proper english (i'm not saying that studying in the local school can't learn proper english); his personality is more out-going, if I put him in the local school he will be labeled as "too active"; also I plan to send him study abroad after Grade 10. more ...... (if you want to know)

==> well structured and students are more behave (from my point of view)
