Apply for ESF Kindergarten (Tsing Yi)

Hi all.

My husband and I are both local Chinese but we wish to send our son to ESF kindergarten (Tsing Yi) when he's 3 years old (he was born in July 05).

What can we do now to better prepare for the application? Thank you.

it seems nothing you can do other than applying on-time.
Local Chinese is always in 2nd priority. No interview required so that you can do nothing.
If u are going to continue in international school, it is always good to provide an English environment for your children. Studying pre-nusery/playgroup in international kindergarten (I mean REAL international kindergarten) will be a good starter.

How about local chinese get foreign passport?  much higher priority than pure chinese?

Hi,

I have a 2nd daughter alos born in July 05.  After I very serious consideration, I decedie to let her go to international nursery class first even expensive as to provide a good english enviorment for her as most of the real international K1 interview and P1 interview is very concern the kid enlgish ability.

Before I thinking just send my 2nd daugther to the local kindengarten and nursey as her sister already study in RC.  I think she will be have priority.  However, 2 weeks before one of my elder daugther classmate's younger sister is fail for interview. (even she fail interveiw may be not the english problem as I know she is study in international KG also) But, just for safty la.

I guess Foreign passport does have a priority too.

My daughter got accepted for 2007K1 admission with no interview. Not sure if it is due to THE PASSPORT or she has been studying in Tutortime & Yew Chung.

Meanwhile we still haven't make up our mind whether we should continue in Yew Chung or change to ESF. Probably we will wait until we see the campus in Feb then we have a clearer picture of ESF.
Can anybody give me some opinion?

But i have the following questions.

According to ESF's website, applications posted before October will receive no advantage or priorty as all applications will be processed ramdomly on 1st November.

All applications will be really processed ramdonly? Or... just on a first-come, first-served basis?

I'm worried about the same problem as you do. I'd also like to know the chance for local born Chinese kids being admitted to ESF Primary 1 after attending ESF kindergarten.

I have the following questions about the application to ESF kindergarten.

1. As there's no interview for admission, the application form is the sole source of our data collected by ESF. There's a column in the application form stating langauge spoken and the level of such language. Can I just click "fluent" English according to parents' opinion? I mean, there's no standard for how "fluent" can only be classified as "fluent" English.

2. The application form doesn't have a space for us to state our preference between morning session or the afternoon one. Can we have a choice if the application is accepted?

3. There's a part in the application form stating all schools / clubs that the kid has been attended. I'd like to know whether joining sports club, such as swimming class, would help the application or not.

(2) According to the acceptance letter given by ESF (Tsing Yi), it is stated that "Starting with the highest priority, randomly selected applications will be alternately allocated either a morning or afternoon session."

(1) + (3) I don't think language proficiency, schools attended and activity records matter. All applications are on a first come, first served basis.

Don't worry. It's not difficult to get a place (I mean kindergarten) if you submit the application on time.

My baby is looking for N1 in 07/08 and I understand ESF doesn't not offer N1 classes.

I will let my baby attend N1 in other kindergarten first and join ESF k1.  I've obtained the application form but noted there's a deadline for submitting the form.  Can I submit the form well before the deadline?  as some mamas said it's on first come first serve basis.

As far as I know, admission crierias included:

1. Native English Speaker (at least the Kid has to be), so in the form should only fill-in English as spoken language (but I am not telling you to cheat here)

2. Have overseas birth certificate

3. Have overseas passport

4. Sumbit yr application form on time

My daughter just got admitted and just attend 1 school tour (ESF Abacus). Good Luck to all.
