ESF or Renaisance College

When you aply ESF they will ask your perference on ESF or Reniasance, does it mean that if you tick ESF Renaisance will consider you after the ESF rejection.  Will it be too late?  Is anyone have this experience?  Please give advice.

Which year group are you talking about?

I do not know any one with this experience. But it would be quite logical that if you ticked ESF as 1st choice, RC would probably put you as the lowest priority. Because, only this would be fair to those who decided to choose RC as 1st choice, right?

I do not know whether it would be too late, since it all depends on whether RC still have places.

What I know is they are still considering applications. ( I have friends who have not heard from them yet. ) And we are talking about applicants who put RC as 1st choice.

My daughter applied for YR 1 and today BHS was sent me the letter about the school is no vancany. Their waiting list remains long until start of next academic year.
And said if you've any queres, you can phone to school.
So, I think in this time, we only consider RC as 1st choice.
May I know each one ESF would you prefer. If in HK EAST will be easy than other district. GOOD LUCK!

I am only a parent (not even an RC parent, yet). I think the best to do is call RC directly.
I only heard from friends and read from other messages that they are still interviewing applicants.

ad. in today's newspaper- they still have iimediate vacancy for Y3,4,5 in RC, YR4 in peak school etc.

Yes - as noted in the advertisement posted by ESF, most vacancies happen in the HK side (except RC and Clearwater Bay School)

ESF 係以往香港政府成立的，為住香港的英國官員，英國軍人的孩子提供教育，自從 97 年英國人離開後，就轉為主收本地孩子。ESF 學校有政府資助，課程以往亦以英國課程為主。
因為 ESF 被本地人 "佔據"，鬼佬都投訴話搵唔到學校，因此當局就整了一種新學校出黎，即 PIS private independant school，目的係分流一下香港人對國際學校的需求。
RC (及現正興建的 DBPIS) 係由 ESF 管理的 PIS private independant school，PIS 係一類新模式/品種學校，詳細型式係點，我都唔係好清楚，不過除 ESF 外，耀中中學及 VICTORIA 小學等都係 PIS，想知多 D ，或者你係 yahoo search 一下。
PIS 係私立學校型式，學費不受政府資助，但學校地皮及建校費用由政府提供/資助。PIS 課程似乎亦係可以由學校自主的 (本地私立學校課程，主要都係本土課程)，但大趨勢下，多間 PIS 都係 IB 課程。
ESF 學校有多間，要分住宅地點報讀 ( 即有校網之分 )，RC 及 DBPIS 則沒有這個限制。
RC (或 DBPIS) 同 ESF 要分開填兩份表，但要 INDICATE 邊間係 1ST PRIORITY，即係話，只可以 2 選 1。

Other than the difference in the "set-up" of the school. I think you also have to be aware of the curriculum.

RC offer the IB from year 1 - year 13..

ESF does not offer IB for all the year levels. May be only for year 12 and 13.

As for the Chinese (putonghua).. RC has more focus than ESF..

Yes that's the general understanding....I have two friends whose kids are with RC at lower years (I think Year 2 and 4) and they do have more Chinese than other IS.  One of them told me it's about one year below the local school standard and are in Putonghua.  Thanks!

As for the chinese level,  basically there are divided into 3 levels (for secondary, not sure of the primary).

They are using the same chinese textbooks as the local schools. I.e. Year 7 - level 1 uses the Pr 6 local school text, level 2 uses the Pr 5 and level 3 uses Pr 4.

As for the primary - they are taught in simplified chinese

Secondary use the traditional chinese

I see....then CHinese will become not be so stressful as in the local school!  Oh can anyone share with me the format of the written test (Year 7).  Will they do the test altogether after a collection of applications or one by one?

If Y7 - level 1 is using P6 local Chinese textbook, then the Chinese level is same as local school, as Y7 in RC is equal to P6 in local schools.

Oh I might have mis-understood then....then up to what year do they finish high school, also Year 12 or Year 13??

RC is using British system same as ESF, P1 starts at 5 year old (= local K3), Y1 to Y6 study PYP, Y7 to 11 study MYP, Y12 to 13 study IBD.
