Re: any moms could help??

So, you mean you have 2 daughters?
singapore int'l school and Kellet Sch only have primary section but not secondary section.

A form 4 girl is big enough to study abroad, I suggest you to send her abroad to learn to be independent. Which country you want to send her to? You can wait until she finished F5 in Hk and let her to study A-Level in UK or to study associate in American.

Re: any moms could help??

I am afraid that it would be quite offensive to regard an IS as a place for local school dropouts.

Re: any moms could help??

i think the "IB"diploma program is very attractive to me
seems that students will have a ticket to get a place at universities all over the world.

Besides, i want to know which int'l school has a better IB result?

Hilary,
I want to send my big daughter to canada or US but definitely not Australia.

yes. I have 2 daughters, the little one is 2 yrs old
so I want to find a kindergarten for her.
among the 3 schools(singapore, canadian, kellet), which one is better ??
or is there any good int'l kg in HK side??

sorry for asking so many questions

Re: any moms could help??

tmlklstkjtrl,
CIS has a very good IB results. Have a look at their results:

http://www.cis.edu.hk/news/UniversityPlacements2005.pdf

http://www.cis.edu.hk/news/IBDP_M05Grade_distribution.pdf

I suggest you send your daughter to study associate degree in American. Students graduated there can transfer to Year 3 directly. Lots of HK students follow this road to transfer to famous Uni in US such as UCLA , UC bekerly and USC.

I have a little son as well.
German Swiss and CIS both have good reputation and results, but it is very difficult to get in.

Other good int'l kinder are such as Tutor Time, Small World  Christian and starters.

As you little daugher is only 2 years old, you can send her to join playgorup in these school first, so that you can perform well when she attends interview. B'coz these school would only intake students from 4 years old and upwards.

I'm afraid that it is a misconception.  Yes, it is true that IB diploma is a qualification recognized by many universities in various countries.  It, however, does not offer you a ticket to get a place at any university, unless you meet their expectation.  The IB program just makes your life easier in the sense that you don't have to have different exams for different countries.  If you only aim at one country, the UK say, it's perfectly fine to take only GCE A level.

It works and it doesn't work.  I have once seen a CV of a so-called Berkeley graduate.  He got excellent results in a community college but did very poorly in Berkeley; nevertheless he managed to graduate.  His CV, as one could expect, was not appealing enough to grant him even an interview in our company.

Re: any moms could help??

tmlklstkjtrl,

If you think your elder daughter cannot cope with Form 4 in a local school, enrolling her in an international school may not work the way you want.

Let me be honest. Studying in an international school does not mean your life is "easy". It is still quite common that people think only the less capable children would go to international schools (or studying in another country). This seems to have been brought down from the last generation. I think it is time people make a change in their believes.

Yes, some of the international schools are quite lousy (I do not want to name those here though). Those lousy ones, well, may be you can get a place relatively easilier, but are you sure you want to put your daughter there?

The good ones (in fact, including the "average" ones), firstly, it is not easy to get a place. They always have long waiting lists and their entrance exams and interviews are not that easy to pass. Further, international schools are also very demanding once they are in secondary level, especially in senior secondary when they need to take public exams.

IB Diploma might look "attractive" to parents since it is internationally recognised. But you should also be aware that it is also a very demanding program.

Re: any moms could help??

Re your question on international primary schools, the best thing may be is to visit the schools, speak with the staff and see the culture for yourself.  I have visited SIS, CIS, CDIS, HKIS and GSIS, and have short-listed SIS and CIS into my consideration set.

CDIS has a pleasant campus and modern facilities, but my impression (and I could be wrong) is that they emphasize a lot on visual arts & sports.  I hear mix reviews from parents about the quality of their academic cirriculum and mandarin.  But generally, kids (at reception level) seem to be happy there.

CIS is more elitist and appears to be the preferred school of many local tycoons, professionals and investment bankers.  I understand their acceptance rate for reception level is about 25%.    CIS has good academic results as mentioned by another BK member.   However, according to my friend (whose daughter studies in CIS), she thinks part of it is due to the academic excellence of kids who join from other schools such as St Paul's Co-ed and SIS.   I am still doing research on CIS and would like to know more about the school.  If there are parents out there who have children in CIS (primary or secondary), please share your comments.

I have enrolled my son to SIS, PY1.  I chose SIS because of the consistent good reviews I hear from different sources.
1)  Kids and parents alike seem to be very happy with it.
2)  Balanced academic cirriculum.  It follows Singapore primary system and prepares the children to go to Spore secondary schools.  I hear it's neither too relaxed, like certain international schools, nor too demanding, like certain good local schools.
3)  Good discipline (well, kind of what one would expect from a Singaporean school).
4)  Children who finish primary level can usually get a place in CIS or GSIS.

Of course, the downside is the prospect of picking up Singlish.  Not ideal, but I supposed no school is perfect.
