Dear yuekinwai,

Your question is really difficult for any SPC parent to answer with confidence.  

S1 students, other than those such as Teresa's boy and mine, might come from the first batch of selection or from waiting list or even last minute door locking.  The very last intake did not necessary ranked lower than anyone in the first batch of selection for all well known reasons.

My experience with this school is that she provides opportunities for her students.  As Eliza pointed out the best 3 in S1 could go to course for elite students.  And, meanwhile, the low performance students were not given up by the school.

The school also accepts students with visual disabilities, they might not be band 1 students but many of them were champions of life, one is teaching Secondary School English and believe it or not one is teaching Physics in HKU.  Their fellow mates benefit a lot because of these students' companion.   Banding might be a minor issue then.

In some manner, my boy and their mates give me an impression that they respect friends with high academic achievement but they also treasure those mates with special talents and strong wills.

小學部上黎的學生, 不論成績全收, 外來生是否只收Band 1?

阿仔唔係由聖保羅小學升上的, 由小學部升上的同學仔話, SPC並非全收小學部上黎的學生, 有部份成績唔達標的(相信b3)要另搵學校. 所以相信由小學升上中學的是有b2生的, 這種情況在一些有中小學的學校都好常見, 例如LS, DBS, YW, MCS...

SPC收約100名外來生, 即超過50%, 以上年的情況來說, 有好多b1生在第一輪都收唔晒, 要在waiting list, 所以我相信SPC收外來生應該絕大部份係b1生, 當然亦相信有exceptional cases. 開咗學兩個月, 阿仔已經話d同學好勁, 佢自己比小學時加倍肉緊, 因為大部份同學成績相約, 即是參差不大, 仲話有d由小學部升上&外來的更勁到超晒班添!!

亦覺得SPC收生都有底線. 有兩個例子: 阿仔的小學同學A, b1尾, 某一種球類好突出, 在香港有排名, SPC第一輪已收; 另同學B, b2尾~b3, 亦是某一種球類好突出, 在香港亦有排名, 但連waiting list都入唔到. 阿仔話如果同學B入到黎SPC讀, 留班機會都幾大.

終於考完試了, 完成了阿仔中學生涯的第一個考試, 有d卷已派及知道分數, 都咬得好緊下! 例如某科全級第一有98分(100分滿分), 而6x分已排15x, (如果無記錯), 真係攞得一分就一分....

再過多兩星期就派成績表&見班主任, 唔知有咩問題要問班主任呢!?

I did ask some stupid questions in those meetings:

• Why the boys were not allowed an earlier leave of lunch at the inter-class football semi-final?
• What did other teachers share with the class teachers about the class or my boy?
• What were the strengthens and weaknesses of my boy in their eyes?
• Did he or the class collectively do somethings, both impressed or troubled the teachers, that I should know?
  

Regarding ranking, a very good bench marking system for reference, and encouragement to be excel (within the top 15% tier) in at least one or two subjects might be the best way to push, for those average boys such as mine in the junior years.   
This ranking will become extremely important in S3 when facing S4 subjects selection.  The school used the overall ranking in S3 in the subject selection exercise.  Science stream is always the hot choice of boys. Sometime, overall ranking within 60, but beyond 50, out of the whole form, might not guarantee a first choice of subjects combination.

Hi hogwarts, many thanks for your suggested questions.

S3 will be a critical milestone for stuedents as well as for S4 selecting subjects is also well noted. So I will let my son free in S1 and S2 so that he can enjoy wonderful school life in SPC and I have been constantly stressing the important of that to him. Hopefully he can get ranking within 50 in S3!!  Thanks for your information.

Free in s1 only is enough, boys need 6 months to gear up.

There was only 1 interview between SPC teacher and applicant 1:1 by Cantonese & English respectively which involved reading and Q&A in last school year.

我試過在門外呆等20多分鐘，prefect 多次圈圈也沒有用，不過到到自己入室拜見老師，也死拖不止十分鐘，學號後都幾慘!

Dear Jackieson,

Because you might need to wait a few minutes outside the classroom before your turn.  I suggest that you can take this opportunity to ask the duty prefect, a prefect will stay with you when you are waiting outside the classroom, questions about his own study life or his views of school or anything you can think of.

Last year, at late Jan 2012, I asked the duty prefect about his selection of LS project, he told me that it was about how HK young students participating in HK political affair.  I joked whether you were studying DAB Youth or Young Pigeons.   He replied me that his study subject was a group of young secondary students with no political affiliation.  It was then I first heard of the now famous and the must entry in the History of HK - 学民思潮.   Looking back in 12 months time, I can only admit that sometime we can learn new things from our children or the boys of SPC.

The boy was from the top class of last year S5 and I wish him all the best in this year's DSE exam.   Also, when the campaign went hot in 7 months' time, I found out from the Apple Daily, that a boy from that same top class, not that prefect I spoke to, had become core member of 学民思潮.   And anther SPC boy, who stood at 学民思潮 street stand, went to study Law.

The school is delivering all-rounded students, even not necessary the very type of every parent wishes, and I see the future of HK in them.

Thanks hogwarts, 呵呵, 原來可以咁... 唔怪得阿仔話班主任叫佢地同家長講, 唔好超時而影響後面的同學!! 而家明白了.

記得去年阿仔面試時, 我亦都周圍搵spc的同學仔傾吓計, 問多d有關學校的資料, 了解多d, 亦可以了解spc的學生的料子!!

明天派成績表了, 阿仔有d緊張, 我就叫佢放鬆d啦, 高低分/合唔合格都唔係太緊要, 因為同去年(p6)比較, 佢的確自律咗好多, 唔洗我地操心! 反正是第一份成績表, 需要時間去適應中學的節奏形式. 而我最想知以佢的料子, 各科在全級的位置, 只要唔好排到太後, 中規中舉就好啦....!! 亦希望各位st paul 仔都有滿意的成績!!

Hogwarts, 你囝囝是童軍嗎？請問是否每年只是學期初招收隊員？我囝囝本是另一旅的幼童軍，但升上該旅童軍後發覺不及幼童軍辦得好。現考慮想轉參加學校的旅團是可以的嗎？還是要再等明年招新隊員才可參加呢？謝謝！
