RC also accepted my son.

$6,250 per month, is that all? What other costs should I expect? Of course, textbooks, uniforms, stationery......

I incline to believe it will be the ideal school, I agree with many reasons you mentioned above. However, it is expensive, what do you think? This is why I still hesitate. Moreover, my son also has a little sister!

What other choices do you have?  I believe the biggest difference between international schools and other famous local schools is the teaching and learning approach which is the key determining factor.

If the school fee were not $6xxx, the competition would be more keen.

Re: Renaissance College Interview

sschiu,

You have to pay for the uniform and stationery (HK$250 for a year if I remember correctly) only, no textbook.

I think in the int'l school standard, their school fee is kinda low. Even if you compare this with ESF schools, which is $4,750 now. Cos' for ESF schools, you probably have to pay extra Chinese lessons for your kid, which would easily costs you another thousand or so. Also, ESF schools seem going to increase their fee sooner or later.

Re: Renaissance College Interview

I guess RC is running kind of Canadian curriculum, I would let my sons join if they're running England curriculum.

Re: Renaissance College Interview

Ruby,

What is the current school fee for your son at Phoenix? If it is less than the proposed $62500 per annum, then does that mean you will be paying more in September?

From my last visit to Phoenix, I saw a few senior students with multiple ear piercing and one had her hair dyed with green, red and blue! Is this behaviour allowed in the school rule?

Re: Renaissance College Interview

I'm totally agree with Father. My girl is studying in k2 in SC, and she was accepted by RC.

I've known that Phoenix still have chinese dictation. Those parent told me their kids' chinese ability is not bad, almost the same standard with local school.

I'm planning to send my girl there to study P1, who will do it as same as me? Let's share more.

Doristsang, do your daughter studying in SC too? Which class? Have you decide yet? Hope our daughter could be classmate!

Re: Renaissance College Interview

Before I applied this school, I have checked with several exising student's parent.  They all give me positive answers.  However, one of my friend told me that Mr Kenny (principal) will finish contract within 2 years.  He might not continue contract with RC.  I am not sure whether it will affect RC or not.  Anyway, I will send my son to study P1 this coming Sept.

Re: Renaissance College Interview

Dear Ruby

Thank you for letting us know about your son's school life.  My son was admitted to P2.  Because he is a K3 student in a local Chinese kindergarten.  How would you suggest to him in catching up with the other kids?  I would say the English story book reading for one.  What would be the other? Any special area of information he need to acquire?

Thanks in advance

Re: Renaissance College Interview

Dear All,
My son (11 yrs old) attended the interviewed on 17.2.06 and I was in the same room. I thought he was performing quite well in the interview. However, I called the school on Monday and was informed that he was unsuccessful in the admission. I was quite surprised and disappointed. He is now studying in a local primary school (p.6). I sent a e-mail to the school today and asked if they can re-consider our application and asked the school to advise me why he failed.
Any of you have children like my son's age?
Please give me some advise. Thank you.

Re: Renaissance College Interview

Dear Father,

The current school fee for Phoenix is HK$4,970 x 10.

Yes, I saw many students have their hair dyed and punched holes on their years. I guess this should be allowed by the school otherwise they won't be like that. But it's not being seen among the primary students.

Re: Renaissance College Interview

Dear jwytl,

If your son is now with local kindy P.3, I guess the key thing he has to catch up is only English. Other than that, maybe his 'guts' to answer questions or talk in front of the class.

Re: Renaissance College Interview

I hope RC will have tighten rules because I have never seen any Shatin College students with dyed hair.  I won't like my son look like this when he grows up.

Anyway, I have accepted the P1 offer.

Re: Renaissance College Interview

Dear Ruby,

The school fee is lower at Phoenix at the moment. Does that mean you will be paying more ($6250 X 10) for your son from P2 this September?

If existing parents cannot afford this increase in school fee, then some students might be forced to quit in September.

Renaissance must tighten the school rules in terms of how the students dress in school. Hair colouring must be discouraged!

Re: Renaissance College Interview

Father,

Yes, the school fee will be raised after moving to Ma On Shan.

I think it's not likely for parents to quit becos' of the fee raise. Honestly, if a parent can afford HK$4,970 per month, he would probably be able to afford HK$6,250, right ? And I do think that the raise is understandable as the school won't have any government subsidy. Even for other ESF schools, the parents have to be prepared for a fee raise sooner or later.

I do agree that the school should apply some disciplines. But neither do I agree with the somehow unreasonably stringent rules of local schools. I  remember when I was in high school, we were not even allowed to put more than 2 clips on the hair !!

Re: Renaissance College Interview

Dear H_A,
In fact, I have no idea which class he should go to, I only mentioned in the application form that the date of addmission I applied was 1.9.2006. I think he should be in F.1 this Sept. It should be Y7 then?

Re: Renaissance College Interview

Dear CY62
I suggest to study in Y6 for alternative:1) for RC reconsider 2) for your child well preparing (mostly english environment) before entering secondary school life.
If I were you, I will sent the application form again.
