Hi, Mrs Ho,

Thanks for your sharing. Your information is very useful.

My daughter is studying in Starters School & she is applying for P1 at 2006 intake. I just received ESF's acknolwedgment letter yesterday.

I want to ask whether there is one-to-one interview or just as you mentioned, there is only group interview with 6-7 kids.

Only group interview with a few children, the children will just feel like they're taking a normal fun class in the school classroom.

In QBS, both parents and kids were asked to wait in a waiting room/admin office area first, then a few interviewers (teachers) will come in the room, briefed us what they'll do with our kids and took the kids to the classroom. The interview lasted for 1 hour and the teachers brought the kids back to us and told us that they'll try to inform us of the result asap. And as what i said before, they also told us honestly that some kids did fail...

i'm not sure if other ESF schools are also having similar procedures.

Primary One

Children Seeking entry to Primary One should:

(Oral interaction)

- Be able to communicate verbally and non-verbally in routine social and classroom situations
- Use acceptable social formulae (e.g. please, thank you, excuse me)
- Use learnt formulae, well rehearsed patterns and short simple utterances
- Give some basic personal information on request
- Show understanding of past, present and future tenses through use of time references (e.g. yesterday we…, tomorrow we…)
- Follow simple instructions (relying on key words and context)
- Extend answers to questions beyond simple word responses (i.e. phrases and simple sentences)
- Be able to use simple adjectives to describe or add emphasis
- Use comprehensible pronunciation, stress and intonation when speaking
- Be able to sustain concentration for a group story and be prepared to participate in answering questions and prediction activities
- Communicate with other children in the group using English
- Indicate when they don’t understand and ask for repetition
- Use questions to elicit help

i'm happy to hear that group interview will be held instead of individual interview. My dauther is pretty shy when she meets stranger (adults). but she behaves very well in class/playgroup.

Hi,

My elder daughter is already in P3 at an ESF school.   Recently there is a parent orientation.   The school accepts kids who can understand and communicate in English.   However, they expect kids to communicate with their parents at home in their MOTHER TONGUE to develop their basic language skills.   This is important.  Please do not force your kids to talk in English 100% at home.   This is absolutely not necessary if you are a 100% Chinese family.   Talking Chinese at home is not a shame.   My kids have foreign passports and I spent many years studing overseas myself.  I don't need to force them to talk to me in English.  Well 70% Chinese and 30% English for us at home.

I agree with aling, as Chinese our kids should learn to speak in Chinese, and we parents do not have the right to take away their precious mother tongue, it is their asset.

)(星島日報報道)明年九月英基學校協會屬校小一學額，首輪申請上周五截止，英基合共收到一千四百個小一入學申請，超出總學額約四百個。該會預計全年小一申  
請可達一千六百個，但仍較去年約二千個申請，下跌兩成。英基指收生下降與早前審計署報告批評協會行政混亂無關，認為是龍年效應影響，才令去年申請入學人數較多。
　　英基學校協會屬下十所小學，合共提供一千零八十個小一（year1）學位，協會今年首次實施統一收表，首輪申請在上周五結束，合共接到一千四百份小一入學申請表，超額近四百人，英基將於十一月中展開面試。

　　英基署理助理行政總裁霍啟思接受查詢時表示，英基將繼續接受入學申請，預計至明年八月，學校將額外接到約二百份小一申請表，但與去年約二千份申請表比較，仍然下跌達兩成。

　　他解釋是千禧年（龍年）出生的學童，去年已可報讀英基的小一課程，在龍年效應刺激下，去年報讀人數大增﹔今年效應消失，收生下跌是意料中事。對於報讀人數下跌，霍啟思指難以估計家長報讀的原因，但他相信與早前審計署報告連番批評無關﹕「現在已有三四百人要加入候補名單，可見外界對我們小一的需求很大。」

　　英基各年級的學額亦競爭激烈，現時候補名單上有近二千七百名申請者，霍啟思指在小一、小六（year6）和中一（year7）的輪候學生最多。家長對九龍區和港島西區的學額需求最大，但英基現時未有任何解決良策。

　　此外，針對去年底被審計署批評行政混亂，英基早前推出削減一成薪酬福利開支的建議，惹來教職員的激烈反對。英基教師協會主席JulianHariness昨表示，今日會發動五百至八百名教師，到英基總部抗議及遞信。

acknowledgement letter 巳經收到, 但幾時才會收到interview letter呢? 請問有沒有家長知道學校何時開始寄信呢?有冇人已經收到啦?

My friend's daughter got the interview acknowledgement on later Dec (before X'mas) last year. She had the interview at mid-Jan. She was applied the CWB.

There are less applications this year 2006.

Maybe more chance for local Chinese to get into Shatin Junior P.1 ?
