Science usually is not a problem in S1, until they reach S3. This year, Physic is the S3 final exam killer subject.
Maths is difficult, in my view only, because in primary, what they had learnt was Arithmetic and in secondary, it is Mathematic, very different ball games. Understanding the theory and following with lot of exercise, are key factors for success in maths.
Regarding science, logical thinking is very important, also should use daily experiences to explain science, such as pushing a coin on a table to explain f=ma, or why the soup tastes better when adding potato, there is a book bearing this name, good for the boys to understand chemistry.
