Which International School has good Chinese Standard

我有一位親友在教統局任職, 她選擇cis.  她對esf的意見都是一般, 本地學校她就更不認同.  cis的問題是太難入, 亦有點貴族化.  而且學生都是傾向英語, 但起碼不用課餘再補習中文.  我記憶所及, cis 的中六抑或是中7課程好像有唸點巴金的家春秋.  我不是要子女做大文豪, 我舉這個例子是要說明cis 的中文課程.  另外我會考慮 sis, 不過聽聞比較與傳統學校相近, 我會再向我的親戚打聽一下.

In that case, I must ask you to share your technique as how I can successfuly encourage my daughter to read and write more Chinese.  I really think a generally dislike/phobia of the Chinese language is shared by most international school students.  My relative whose kids attended/attends CIS also face the same problem despite a stronger Chinese curriculum than ESF.  Imho, 佢真係好識教仔女. 我係好充心咁admire佢, 亦打算將來要多點向她取經.  但誘導子女多用中文好她也辦不到.

yeap, I see the point.  You chose the best school - if that is what you want me to say to end this bickering.

I believe it is no doubt that CIS will have higher Chinese standard and they have very good academic results too, only if you can get in.

For ESF, it is fair to say that you cannot rely on the school for Chinese learning, we must have private class after school for it.  Other than this concern, ESF schools do show very good acedemic results in the past years given that they won't screen students academically upon application except proficiency in English.

No school is perfect!

In my case, luckily my daughter (Y.6 now) can still keep her interest in reading both Chinese and English story books at her level so far!

I think it's not only the school's responsibility to encourage reading (no matter Chinese or English or French), it's also parents' responsibility. If parents enjoy reading, our kids will want us to share the reading with them. I mean when the kids were young, if we read them good stories, name it Chinese or english, I'm sure our kids will also enjoy reading good books. I think we are the one who should introduce the method of how to select reading materials to our children; the best way is to set a good example to them.

Local school 我唔會考慮了, 大女讀IS讀得咁free, 我諗佢實頂唔順, 及根本好難追得上...
暫時覺得最好的, 是ISF, 但身邊的親朋戚友都話點解讀開IS又走去讀私立, 都唔知點講好...
唉~~  好頭痕!

Same as you la, my daughter has got used to IS method and she enjoys her school life very much, she is reluctant to apply those famous elite secondary schools.  

Will you consider Renaissance College?  Its cirriculum and Chinese program seems to be quite good, which allows our kids to study Chinese and have international schooling.  Only that it is just newly opened, no brand name established yet.  Guess it is the same case with ISF...

So I also feel headache too!!

this is mable, may I ask where is the location and the chinese name of Renaissance college ? HK side or Kln. side ?
I do apply the ISF primary for my kid, but it's a bit far away from my house, and what u mention abt this college's cirriculum sounds very good.

Hi, mable,

Renaissance College is the new ESF private school at Ma On Shan, Chinese name is 啓新書院.  There is a lot of discussion of the school in the topic of RC parents for your reference.
