Re: ICS P1 interview

Dear tommyzoe,
Then ICS is definately the place to be!  It provides a wonderful Christian environment for kids while their academic level is very high and I also think kids there behave better than other International school kids.

Re: ICS P1 interview

I got a reply from Mrs. Hoy that is same as you said. They will inform us soon. Maybe we will know the arrangement in 2 weeks. CherylMum, we all ICS parents move to the forum "ICS Parents", ok? You are welcome to join it.

What do you prefer your daughter to wear to school? uniforms or not?

CherylMum 寫道:
The school said they have tentatively put my daughter into the am session, but it's not confirmed yet.  They have to wait until all students are enrolled so as to make a decision.  They said they will usually place those kids living far away in the pm session.

How about your kid?  Has the school informed you yet?

Re: ICS P1 interview

I've sent an application for P.1 2007 a few months before. My girl is studying at Tsing Yi ESF at the moment. ICS office said that an interview will probably be held in next January. Can any ICS parents give me some suggestions on what to prepare in these few months. My girl is quite shy, I'm afraid that she'd say nothing and fail the interview. We're Christians and really want the kids to enter a Christian school...

Thank you!

Re: ICS P1 interview

I think, if your daughter is studying at TY ESF at the moment she must be OK in attending ICS interview. ESF is not good? We are also a Christian family so we choose ICS. But academic performance of ESF is better than ICS, right?

Re: ICS P1 interview

tommyzoe and cherylmum,
ICS has a higher academic standard than ESF I personally think.  I know that ICS student, starting from 3rd grade...will have lots of homework to do.  They have more homeworks than any other international schools.  They emphasize a lot on academic performances while ESF is more lay-back.
You also have to learn at least one music instrument starting from grade 3 or grade 5 (I don't quite remember).  I know some kids, they learn 2 instruments too!  I think one of the reasons why is because they want our kids to at least have something (musical) to serve the church...
Sports and Arts are very important at ICS also.
Some parents whom I talk to actually are concerned that ICS has too much homeworks for their kids.  I personally think that homeworks are okay as long as they teach in an interesting and inspiring way.  You guys agree?  Besides, I definately agree that ICS kids are more independent, and well behaved than other kids.  ESF secondary school kids are quite "scary" ...because I heard too much about them taking drugs etc...but with ICS...high school kids there know what they need to do, but are not "nerdy".  I met some of the ICS high school kids at my church and they volunteer to play guitar and drums at the praise and worship team...and have to admit that they are very talented but humble.  Also, they are willing to come to church every Friday nite to rehearse.  No one forces them, they do it by their own wishes.  I mean...it is Friday nite!  For other kids, they would definately go do something else on Friday nite!  I wish my children will be willing to do this when they grow up!

I heard that ICS places more emphasis on academic performance than ESF.  Like in K2, ICS teaches phonics systematically while kids in ESF kindy is still "learning through play" and no phonics is taught.[/quote]

Re: ICS P1 interview

CherylMum

Thanks for your detail reply.  Can you tell me more about the curriculum ?  How's the standard of Mandarin and the ratio of English and Mandarin lesson ?

How long does the interview to your daughter ?  Do you know the content ?

Sorry for so many questions.  Million of thanks.

TinaMummy,

Yes, ICS R1=K1 while R2=K2.  Its R1 admits students who are three years old on or before 31 August of the admission year.

When deciding whether to let your kid study in international schools, you should consider the following issues carefully:

(a) whether you like the teaching philosophy of international schools (they don't have much, or even no, homework, and you might not know what they are learning at school);

(b) their Chinese standard is low, especially for ESF and ICS;

(c) the discipline of many international schools might not be as strict as local ones.
