Do you know Hong Kong Academy in Happy Valley? Is it good? Is it easy to get in? How do u compare with HKMA? Does HKMA take interview before kinder? Is it IB School? Many Thanks for your reply.

i have sent the application form for K1 class to YMCA TST last month.  The staff said that they would send me a letter of interview apointment in Jan.  Up to now, the letter has yet to arrive.  Today I called YMCA for at least 5 times but nobody answered. Each time, I was redirected to the voicemail box !  

I am confused, how come school do not have anybody answering the phone during office hours ?!

What number did you call?  Did you call 2268-7766 to talk to Ms. Chan? You may also email the kindergarten at
[email protected]

or directly to Susan Young, the headteacher, at [email protected]
She usually responds very quickly.

I think you're better to call during 10:00-11:30am or
2:30-4:30pm,it's easy to find the staff Ms Fion Chan
to as the details.

In terms of admissions administration, I would say YMCA might frustrate you a bit. Perhaps it was because of staff turnover.  Fion was probably new because early last year, the contact person was Estella.  And perhaps I was expecting too much. A lot of times when I tried to call, my call would be diverted to the voice mailbox.  I felt that I was not informed about what the next step would be. When I sent my application in Sept 2004, I was not informed about when an interview would be held.  So in January, I had to email Susan to find out and was told that the meeting and visit would be held in March or April.  

But like Y2Kchild said, if you're happy with the school, never mind the administration.

Thank you for your advice and information.  I have given up calling the school.  I have sent an email to the principal instead.   I am still waiting for her reply.

You said your experience with Ms Fion Chan was not so happy.  Did you mean she always put up a long face and acted unprofessionally ?  Can you tell me more, how did you son nearly lose his seat ?  What is the position held by Ms. Fion CHAN ?  Is she important ?  I hope not.  Thanks.

Dear all ,
Actually, my girl is now studying in the nursery of “Keen Mind Kindergarten”.  I like this school very much, the teacher, environment, facilities ………….. everything.  However, my husband and I want her to study at an ESF primary school in future.  Keen Mind does not have all-English class and YMCA seems a better choice to provide her with an English environment, preparing her for the ESF interview.  Some commercial books on enrollment said YMCA students have a better chance of entering the ESF, is it true ?

Dear Y2K Child,

Knowing that your child is studing in YMCA, I am looking for a kindergarden which can provide an all-english enviroment. The reason is that my family is a 100% chinese family and my husband and I cannot speak fluent english. I can only teach her simple english. I do want my child who can speack fluent english. I want her to study overseas in future. It is hard to find an all-english kindergarden in Kowloon side. I know that YMCA is the one which is english teaching. Can I ask you some questions about YMCA:
1. When interview,will they test the english standard of my chird?
2.   What is the ratio of the foreigners in a class?
3. Is it hard to get in this school?
4. Why you choose this school? Are you afraid that your child cannot speak cantoneses?

Dear Y2K child,

Thank you for your reply. You mentioned that there are a lot of all-english international kindergartens. Can you suggest some for me? Regarding the ESF primary, there are a lot of schools in different locatons. Is  it necessary that I have to appliy the school according to where I live? If it is true, so which school should I apply, I live in Sham Tseng, N.T.
