CCKg VS ESF

I'm still struggling whether my son should stay in ESF or accept the place in Christ Church Kindergarten. Can anybody give me some advice?

I was told that graduates from Clear Water Bay School are promised a place in KGV if they start studying in P1 in Clear Water Bay. But for those who join the primary school in P2 or above, they can only go to South Island School. Is that true?

Among all ESF high schools, is KGV the best (with the highest academic standard)?

But CCKG is a Christian school (We're Christians). It develops students' interest in reading. Its school fee is lower (<$2900). Its medium of instructions is English but offers Chinese lessons (2 times a week?).

We have to register on 1 Jun if accepting the place. Although we can buy some time by spending $550 for registration fee (+ school uniforms), at the latest we have to decide in August.

Can anyone give me some advice.

Re: CCKg VS ESF

You can consider ICS as well if you are christian and looking for good christian school with good academic standard and caring teachers.

Re: CCKg VS ESF

ICS is a good International Christian School. They use American educational system. In kindergarten, there are R1 & R2 class; in elementary, there are P1, G1-G5; in secondary, there are G6-G12. In G12, students are required to take SAT and AP in order to go into university. Their graduates are 100% to study University or similar higher education.

You may refer to the following web-site:

Re: CCKg VS ESF

smlsml,

Re the school fee, when you go to the ICS website, you click "admissions" and you can go to the page "forms and fees".

See if you can locate it.

That depends on whether you want your kid to study international primary school or local school.  I heard that students in CCKG can enter very good local primary school, but to me, I have great reservation in letting my kid to study in those "top" local schools which are cramped with homework and exams.

Different people say different things.  KGV definitely has a long history and is strong in music.  However, I heard that Shatin College is doing very good academically.  I am not sure though.  I just heard that some people will move their house into NT so as to enter Shatin College.

KGV is oversubscribed.  I heard that not all graduates of Clear Water Bay or Beacon Hill can enter KGV.  They might be allocated to other ESF secondary school.

Re: CCKg VS ESF

Kareese,

According to ESF website, all ESF primary students are guaranteed a place in ESF secondary schools, but not necessarily in the same catchment area.  So what I understand is, if KGV is oversubscribed, some of the students studying in BHS or Kowloon Junior will be allocated to other ESF secondary schools.

Re: CCKg VS ESF

Smlsml,

May I ask that do you mind your kid's chinese will not be so strong because ESF's chinese standard will be Internaional school standard?

You can always go back to International school provided you keep his english well.

Re: CCKg VS ESF

The easiest way to get a place in an ESF school is through its Kindergartens.  For other grades, the waiting list is very long and the Language requirement of English is higher.  My friend's son has been waiting for 2 years and failed the interview.

Regards.

Yes, agree.  I also heard some cases of local students fail the entrance test to KGV.  The gap of English standard between local schools and ESF is really large from upper primary onwards.
