Children learn Mandarin or French in IS...

If children choose french in school then how you teach her when she has the questions on the book?
Can they change to learn Mandarin if they found french not siutable after 1 year?

Mandarin is a must in my child's IS, we choose French when she was in P1.  I cannot teach her and rare hear she speaks at home.
