Anyone got invitation from ESF Tsing Yi for the introductory tour in May regarding the September intake?

By what means that we can be invited? I also want to have a visit tour of this school. My son will be 2 years old this May.

I've been invited to the tour last year (Sept or Oct, can't remember) as I planned to send my daughter to this school, but after consider again (only English teaching), I give up the place.

If you want your children to learn in English environment, you can try this school as many of my friends told is good.

Thank you for your reminder.
I understand that they do not guarantee a place in ESF primary school as they mentioned in handbook.
Which primary school did your friends's kids go after ESF kinder?
Which kinder did you choose for your daughter now? What is your plan for your daughter? Are you target for ESF primary or some other international primary school?
Sorry for so many questions. As I am always interesting to know others's point of view

Did you mean the invitation for the introductory tour? If yes, I just want to remind you that they will give you a contracts after the meeting and then they will inform you that you have to sign it and return with a cheque (one month deposite and one month fee) if you accept their offer within one week. As I was a bit shock at that time when I know that I have to make the decision within such short time.

I was already told about the need to make a quick decision so it won't be a shock to me. Actually, my chance of accepting the offer is less than 50%. I also knew from Day 1 that they offer only all English teaching. I just want to visit the school to see if any recent changes have been made in view of learning Chinese has become a world trend. I don't have much confidence in taking extra Chinese lessons in other instititutes. Both my nephew and niece, aged 6 & 11, are ESF kids and therefore I know what their Chinese reading skills are like~~Poor, well below standard. This is and has always been my major concern of sending kids to international schools at pre-school level.

You would need to send an application to the kindergarten. They will invite you to a school tour if your application is successful. Don't expect them to get back to you so soon. I submitted my application one year ago when my son was only 22 months old.

Dear ESF Kinder's parents,

1) Do you know what percentage of ESF kinder's students could go into ESF primary? I am talking the real ESF primary school not Phoenix. If they don't go into ESF primary, where do they go after K2?
2) Do you give your kids extra activity like phonic, chinese etc.. after school? May I know more details?
3) Is there any parent day during the term?
4) Are there any party/ concert during the term? Will the kids sing or dance on the stage? as my daughter likes to sing, that would be great if there is opportunity for her to perform on the stage.

Sorry for interrupting but I remember reading from the EMB website that schools are only allowed to charge a $500 deposit. How come so many schools ask the parents to put down 2 months' fees as deposits?

To  cpmummy,

1) All of my boy's close friends goes to ESF.  Of course we heard that some were rejected.  But no first-hand information.

2)  No during kinder's stage but yes when he goes to primary school

3) Some sessions would be arranged.

4) No as far as I can remember

Thank you for your reply. I chat with you before, you are always helpful.
1) Do you know what is the selection criteria? I know they will give the priority to native speaker but nowaday I can't see there are high amount of native speaker children in Hong Kong and ESF said that almost 80% of their students are Chinese. So I really do not understand why there are still such alot of students not given a place in P1 or even an oppounity for interview?
Does your daughter received an interview? May I know which school you applied? ESF or some other international primary school? Has she being accepted by any primary school?

I also don't understand why there are so many kinder ask for one month or two months fee for deposit. Is this because they are International school?Is HKD500 deposit only applied for local school?

I really don't know. The EMB approved ceiling of application fee and registration fee is $30 and $550 respectively. Perhaps like you said, these apply to local schools only. Or perhaps the one or two months' fee are actually tuition fees in advance and not a registration fee?

Hi CherylMum,

Congratulation! Glad to hear that your daughter has been accetped by SJS. As I heard from my colleague (her wife is a teacher in ESF primary before she went back to her home country last year) that he said SJS is the best among the others school in ESF.

Thank you for your great info. I guess if my son is a Canadian with a non-Chinese surname (since my husband is not Chinese) and speaks English only will have a good chance of getting an interview to ESF Primary School? We are hoping to send him to Kennedy School. We have applied to Starters School and ESF Sheung Wan. I know a lady who is working in ESF Sheung Wan. She told me that kindergarten is overcrowded. Even herself sent her daughters to Letterland in Causeway Bay. They are both studying in Kennedy School now...

Sorry, I didn't ask further as in fact we are not living within the catchment area of SJS. But I remember he said higher teacher qualification in SJS.
