I've applied for JIS; however, I think it's international section is too small. My son loves to play with lots of friend, I think it's better to join a bigger school

.

Anyway, I really prefer RC. Reasons:
1. New school, high morale of staff ( a RC parent told me)
2. Good mardarin training
3. IB curriculum
4. his best best best friend will go to RC

5. more and more non-chinese will choose RC because they prefer it's strong chinese training (a RC parent told me)

I don't prefer SJS. Reasons:
1. A friend (SJS parent) told me that SJS is not so "excellent" as I think.
2. IB and mardarin are "new" to them.

There is a dilemma because:
1. No track record for RC;
2. Good track record.

In conclusion, I'll choose RC. Thank you for your sharing.

Even though RC has no track records, but the focus of chinese in the school cannot be underestimated. More parents are convinced that even though they want their kids to be proficient in English - putonghua is also a MUST..

In other IS - chinese lessons is really very limited. May be 2 - 3 lessons a week..

I think once RC has a tracked record, it will definitely be one of the sought after IS... by then. it will be harder to get in !

突然諗起一些朋友的情形，可以分享下。

任何學校要插班都唔會易。
國際學校唔會趕 D 成績唔好的學生走，如望國際學校有位插班，主要係等學生退學。
如果一有位 ( 有 D 學生要隨父母離開香港，會中途退學，這在國際學校很普遍 )，又排到你，你就要即刻去報到。
相反，如果冇人退學，又真係冇可能有位插班，我丈夫的英國人客戶，孩子當年亦因為 ESF 冇位，要去法國國際。

單係 ESF，如果係從外國來 (或回流) 香港，我覺得肯定機會大好多。我知這個唔係 POLICY 內有說的，但我的確有朋友的兩個孩子，在回來後好快就入了 BHS；講明，佢地真係唔係靠人士關係入學。
至於 ESF 的收生 POLICY，我覺得有好多人都明知自己不合資格，都照入 FORM，人地話明係比 "有需要的人讀" 嘛。
不過，父母總係有少少 "一試無妨" 的心態，即係好似好多人參加香港政府小一派位，明明 "分數"唔夠，都要選喇沙瑪利諾。SJS WAITING LIST 過千唔奇，我覺得少添啦，本地名校 DGJS 單係小一報名人數都過千。

我有朋友，舊年為自己孩子 (本來讀九龍塘區某名小學) 報了六間國際學校，一間都唔成功。今年諗住再試，加多一間 RC；我話，RC 暫時會易 D 插班，因為佢地會 EXPEND 多一班，過多一年，人地滿晒，唔會咁易插班。佢女兒應該出年係 YEAR 7，不過佢重未有得去做 WRITTEN TEST。其實佢女兒一直都成績唔錯，不過如果人地真係冇位，點叻都冇用。

RC vs SJS，一般人總係話去 SJS，我自己都會咁希望。
不過，我覺得要計下自己有冇機會，唔好浪費時間，
有虛無的幻想。
year 1 好 d，學位多 d，但係如果想插班，單係 "siblings" 這一點，都可能冇了一半 release 出黎的學位。
其實真係比較兩間學校，真係各有千秋，
認識的幾個在國際學校任教的外籍老師，都對 RC 好有信心，我估以一間開學只有半年的學校，一個 "開張" 只有半年的校舍，算係唔錯罷。
眼見耳聽，好多新 local school ，搞了幾年都混亂不堪，我估好多 RC 家長都應該收貨，起碼我作為外人，都聽到唔錯的口碑，應該話，我暫時冇聽聞學校有乜大錯失。
我估 peter kenny 真係幾 competent。
唔計 year 1 ( 反正年年都收咁多新生 ) ，想插班的今年要最後衝線，因為話重會開多一兩班 ( 舊年未開晒班) ，真係要把握機會，下年未必會有咁多學位；講真，話要把握，都唔代表會易，因為考唔到就係考唔到，看 year 7 的 admission test，似乎對好多學生都有難度，再高 d 班，要求一定更高。
不過，起碼今年有位比你考，咁你考唔到，都甘心； SC year 7 直情外來插班生一個都唔收，考都冇得考；過兩年，可能 RC 都會係咁，收晒自己同其他 ESF year 6 學生先收插班生。

I'm a RC parent. I went to the Coffee Morning organised by the PTA today. Quite a lot of parents there. I talked to 3 parents, and their situations might give you an idea whether RC is such a fall-back to ESF or other international schools :

The first one is a dad of a Year 5 student. He sent his son to RC this year from Yew Chung. His son spent 7 years with Yew Chung. He is actually happy with Yew Chung but he came to RC cos' he has confidence with ESF administration (according to him, RC really shares tightly the ESF administration unlike Phoenix), and he rates highly about Peter Kenny, Max Muller (head of primary) and the teachers in RC.

The second one is a mom of a Year 4 student and a Year 1 student. Both of her kids are from KJS. She sent her kids to RC becos' of the emphasis on Chinese. Also, she speaks highly about Peter Kenny and the standard of the teachers in RC. And she believes that the leadership of Peter Kenny would help attract top-tier teachers from around the world to RC. (this morning Peter Kenny did not join us as he's interviewing teachers in the UK Boston).

The third one is a mom with her twins studying in Year 7. She switched them from Clear Water Bay (actually about to go to KGV) to RC. She said she's attracted by RC's IB curriculum as well as the impressive campus.

Actually, the 2nd and the 3rd parents are both foreigners.

Hope this will give you all some more perspective about RC.

那也是, christf說得對, 我是直觀地以"金髮"來"國際化"學校了!上週五去GSIS看了gsis idol 2007, 很是精彩. 那兒也有不少印度裔的, 冠軍就是她們的舞蹈表演, 精於樂器的多數是黑髮的, 可能也是外國人吧.

Thanks for your information.

I would like to send my son to RC for G4 after summer but they said they don't have any interview schedule for G4. They just ask me to send the admission form to them ASAP.

Did anybody know how many class do they have in G4 ? When they said like that, is that any chance to go in ? So worry about it.

Hilala,

I also sent my daughter's admission application to RC for G4 two months ago. At that time,the office lady said the interview will be probably conducted on April,2007. If there is a lot fo applicants, they may expend one more G4 class in the coming Aug. I rang up RC about the interview matter few days ago. The lady said the school will give me news if they are ready to interview those G4 applicants. However, there is no G3 student withdraw from school at the moment, they are not sure when the school will offer an intervew chance for my daughter :cry:

In view of the shared experiences here, school admission is not an easy task. It is related to the life development of the kids. It is good that many parents in the forum showed their concern to have a better understanding of various schools. The earlier you start your consideration of this matter, the higher the chance you hit the right school. To choose a right school to kids, I don't think we should "cross the bridge when it come to us". We should make preparatioin seriously as early as possible.
