Re: KCIS vs SIS

It's hard to tell.  KCIS is based on British curriculum, while SIS is singaporean curriculum.  So basically, their approach are different.

Re: KCIS vs SIS

Thank you hurrah.

Sorry that maybe I've made my question unclear.  What I want to know are the differences of the two schools regarding areas such as academic level, student discipline, environment, study atmosphere  etc.  I can found a topic on SIS but only find a few comments on KCIS.

Thank you.

Re: KCIS vs SIS

what does KCIS stands for ??

I think SIS provide a well-balance environment for English and Putonghua development for the kids - taking into account that it is an IS school.

Re: KCIS vs SIS

My son studies at KCIS and so far I find it ok for the kindergarten programme.  Actually it's 25% on Mandarin and 75% on English.  I don't know how to tell the academic level, but it seems to me that the school environment is quite relax, without imposing too much on students.  But this is also exactly the point that I like this school.

For SIS, my friend told me that it is rather disaplined.  I don't have much knowledge on the academic level.

So what level of education that you are considering?  Kindergarten or primary?

Re: KCIS vs SIS

My son is studying P1 at KCIS.  There are homeworks for both Maths and Chinese 2 times a week.  The school encourages reading very much and is using the Oxford Reading Tree.  The teacher has a good communication with us and we are informed of the teaching progress through the class homepage at the school website.   My son's english improves a lot after going to P1 for just one month and I am satisfied with the school.  Moreover, the class size is really small, maximum 24.

Re: KCIS vs SIS

hurrah,

I'm considering the primary school for my son.  What alternatives did you have when you considered the primary school for your son?  It seems that your son did not study at the kindergarten section of KCIS.

Re: KCIS vs SIS

My daughter started K1 at KCIS last month and so far I am happy with the school.  Teachers are experienced and caring.  The school also keep updating the parents what's going on in the classroom.  I got separate teaching plans from the English and Mandarin teachers.  I can see that my daughter is very happy going to school.  Actually,I have no expectation on her learning of Putonghua since the int'l section's teaching of Putonghua can not compare with the all Mandarin programme in the local section, but I found that my daughter can sing some Putonghua songs and count in Putonghua now maybe due to the daily mandarin lesson .   The school concerns about the behaviour of students as well and it encourages reading habit in school and at home.  But some parents don't like the lower campus as it is old :

Re: KCIS vs SIS

I think it depends on what you are looking for.  As I concern more on the Chinese standard and no. of chinese lesson, I finally decided not to choose the ESF schools because they only offer 2 chinese lessons per week as told by my friend whose son is studying in KJS P1.  If Chinese standard is not too much your concern, I think ESF schools are good and they have proven records in public exam.

Re: KCIS vs SIS

Dear all,

As my husband and I planned to choose the nusery of KC for our daughter, so we also consider KCIS for our kid.  However, it is said that the environment of KCIS is not so good (a bit old and crowded) and studying in SIS is good for both Eng and Chin standard, so we would like to have a comparison among the two.

How many Chinese lessons per week are there for KCIS?  Do you think there are enough extra-curricular activities for the kids?
