RC - Openn Evening 21 Sep 2006

我昨日去了RC的Open Evening，大致上都係校長講下野，接著就係些老師們帶住家長去不同的地方參觀和講解，然後就係問答時間。

有關的中文問題，昨日亦成為了焦點。他們的Head of Chinese說，他們每個星期有4小時的中文國語時間，太約係45分鐘至50分鐘左右一堂的，不是5日都有的，只是其中的4日。故相對係本地的學校，中文水平並不會是特別高的，但會慢慢Pick Up上去。

但今年的收生好似比上年激烈了很多，連小學部的負責人都只是聽過ESF學校和幼稚園only，其實係唔係意味著今年其他學校的學生入讀的機會唔大呢？

I think the school will be quite welcomed by parents, as even this year their 6 classes of year 1 are full when the campus is just opened.  Yet I guess chance of getting into RC may still be higher than ESF primary for local Chinese kids in 07/08.

So have you applied?

I been there too!

The campus and the principle is quite impressive!
During the Q & A time most question is around Chinese class, do you think 4 class in a week is adequate?

4小時一個星期又真的少了一點，但比起SJS又真係已經是一個進步了。都很困難說是好還是不好，在乎係同什麼去比較罷了。

有關想讀好中文的可能傳統學校會係一個比較多人選的選擇，但英文的有人又會選國際學校，故就要看家長的心態。

你有無申請呀？

If you treat RC as an international school, then 20% Chinese is quite good as compared to other IS.  Besides, it teaches both traditional and simplied Chinese.  It is just give and take.

Apparently the school do offers international environment as all teachers are NET from different countries, and they adopt the teaching method of ESF schools.

They just talked about the general program.  As I know, they now have 3 classes of year 6 going to year 7 next year, and there will be 3 classes of year 7 more opened for the new ESF Discovery Bay private school temporarily at RC as the new campus of DBPIS is not ready until 2008.  So by 2007, there will be at least 6 classes of year 7 in RC, guess that may be they will accept 1 to 2 classes more new students into year 7. They have a lot of potential students from their partner primary IS such as HLYIS, Japanese IS and Kingston.

Is your kid studying in IS?

My friend applied, but I still have one more year to consider, as my boy born at oct, 2003.

I think RC is a nice school, but my wife have concern on the level of the Chinese! By the way, Do you know will esf teach Chinese at all? How many hour per week?

ESF school has only about 8% Chinese (2 lessons per week only) while Renaissance has 20% Chinese.  So depends what you want.

係個open evening內他們的head of chinese話會一個星期有4小時上中文的(國語)了。要中文的就可能係去local school會好些了。所以你自己要想一想你想你小朋友的路係將來應該點樣行了。

Thank you everyone!

To be honest I couldn't make up my mind!

I don't like the local education system, so my perference choice is ESF, RC, CAIS and ICS In no particular orders!

CAIS is close to my church and have bible teaching. That is Very Good! But I don't know If study in CAIS what University will most likely to go? Is it possible to join University in HK? I have no idea of Canadian system at all.

My wife, however, wants to put more emphasis in Chinese, which I don't have objection. BUT....Just like what you said. Local school will serve this purpose better!

Confused....
