Re: ICS P1 interview
me too.
The Principal informed me to accept my son to study R1 after my son just finished interview.
Even the interview is last for 30 mins. I think our kids can handle it, not really difficult.

Tinamummy,
At ICS, no Chinese or Mandarin is taught in the kindergarten level. In ICS primary, Mandarin will be taught. The principal told me that an ICS graduate is able to speak fluent Mandarin, but you should not have much expectation on their Chinese reading and writing ability. The principal said, afterall, ICS is paving the way of the students to further studies overseas, so they won't stress too much on Chinese.
Before the interview, the Principal would talk with the parents for 5-10 minutes. She asked me how I supported my kid's English, what my expectation towards their school was...(I was like attending an interview too!!)
Then, the interview with kids lasts for around 30 min. One parent can accompany the kids. The setting was quite casual. First, they gave some puzzles for my daughter to play. They asked some questions, e.g. what is the colour of this block? What is this animal? Then, there was the story time. The Principal read them a big book and asked some questions. Lastly, there was the drawing time. They asked my daughter to draw any picture she liked.
During the interview, the Principal and the other interviewing teacher would write on an assessment checklist, which included items not only English ability, but also other behavioral indicator.
My daughter was not very outgoing, but she managed to reply the Principal with some single words. She also behaved well, sat properly and responded to questions/instructions. After the interview, I was immediately told that my daughter was accepted.
However, the Principal just asked the other parent (who also attended the interview at the same time) to wait for their reply a week later. That kid could speak simple English like my daughter, but he was rather active and could not sit still and did not respond well to instruction.
So I guess unlike ESF, ICS also considered the kid's behavior other than the English ability. |
