Hello CherylMum,

Did your daughter read Roald Dahl's storybooks?

Some of the stories are very funny, e.g.

The Enormous Crocodile
The Magic Finger
The Giraffe, and the Pelly and me

BTW, my kids love Mr.Men and Little Miss series which are suitable for K3 - P2. The stories are humorous and easy to read.

Hi stccmc,

My son loves Enormous Crocodile most too.

If Edith likes EC, I think she'll love Giraffe, the Pelly and me as well.  You may check out the newer version of The Giraffe, the Pelly and me from the public library which has colorful illustration as Enormous Crocodile. As the old version doesn't have colorful pictures. (Probably, the magic finger is not so attractive as EC or Giraffe, since the pictures are in B&W only.)

BTW, girls should love Matilda by DH. (Actually, I love this story much.) The story is quite long (>100pages) and is more suitable for elder kid P2/P3+.

A new Tommy Tales Adventure (book 31) has been released.

I've checked out the following series of books from the public library.

Colour Young Puffins
The Witch's Dog Series

This series are books with longer, more developed stories or chapters, simple sentences and pictures throughout.

Your daughter may interest in them.

Other than the fictions, does your daughter love to read non-fiction readers? Recently, I bought a series of National Geographic - Windows on Literacy 16 books (China version) which covers wide range of topics from: Science, Nature, Math concept, and social science, etc .... The books are very informative and easily understandable which are suitable for P1/P2+ kids.

Seems here mums is successful in teaching phonic at home. I am trying to teach my son phonics. Would any mums tell how to teach syllable, and how to teach kids to divide a word into syllables?
