Could the international school students continue their degree education in HK un

I am planning to put my son into the international school.  However, most of my friends reminded me that once I put my son into the international stream, I have to make sure that I would have sufficent fund to support my son studying the degree abroad in future which is the only way out.

I wonder why they cannot continue thier degree education in Hong Kong ?

Anyone knows or have experience ?

International school students definitely can study in the universities in Hong Kong, but they have less chance than traditional school students because of their Chinese standards.

International school graduates can certainly study in local universities.

This year, one HKIS student entered HKU Medicine, one HKU Law. One was offered a place in CU, the other  a place in HKUST.

10 Chinese International School (CIS) graduates entered either HKU or HKUST this year !

You can expect similiar figures from ESF etc.

HKU has been accepting IB diploma ( the curriculum CIS , FIS & Li Po Chun are using) holders for more than 20 years.

Local universities accept other qualifications ( SAT, AP, IGCSE etc ) too. Of course, you have to be very good in your scores and possess other impressive achievements.

By the way, I would also like to know whether the international school students have had the equal opportunity to enter the local U as those from the local school ?

Hi! My dau is 14 months old and I have similar plan as yours. I agree to all the above comments but one thing to add, i.e. after so many schooling years in international school, the kid may tend to study abroad due to more choices academically, peer pressure..... So I think it is better for parents to be well-prepared both financially and psychologically.

Students taking A-level enter local universities through something called JUPAS system.  Those who do not take A-level, including overseas applicants and students from international schools, should apply through Non-JUPAS system.  Unlike, JUPAS which is adminstrated by the EMB, different universities have their own Non-JUPAS admission standards.  In fact, different departments can have their own way to take in Non-JUPAS students.

Therefore, it is difficult to say whether the chances for students of local schools and international schools are "equal" or not.
