ESF said that there is no 100% guarantee for a place to secondary school.  Does anyone know if there is any ESF primary student not allowed to enter ESF secondary?  Is it not a 100% one-dragon through train?

Hi WYmom,

Can you tell me more about the information you got?. Is it an official announcement or just rumours?  Is it applied to all ESF schools or just some ESF Junior schools without a link to an ESF secondary school?

When my son was accepted by Shatin Junior as a P1 student, I have received a document telling me that SJS students will be transferred directly to Shatin College.

In ESF parents' forum, I found this post.

The lady from ESF offering an interview for my kid told me this, saying that this is a message to parents from their headquarters.  Maybe they use such a disclaimer to avoid any dispute in case there are changes in their policies after reform.  That's why I ask the question.  I guess this will not affect exisiting students.

I have visited the ESF's web site (www.esf.edu.hk/application.html) just now and found a statment  "Students in ESF primary schools have a guaranteed place in a secondary school."  Maybe the message you received is just a disclaimer.

Thanks, I will clarify more with ESF.  By the way, do you know the quality of their secondary schools such as KGV and Shatin College?  How are their standards compared to those elite local schools like Maryknoll, La Salle, DGS or DBS?

I really don't know, they are totally different.  One thing is for sure, my son is really very happy with SJS.  To the best of my knowledge, famous traditional schools are for those very hardworking students (not my son).  Someone said "If you are going to let your child study abroad, why take a hard way?"  Universities in Hong Kong are just mediocre.  I heard that many ESF's students have been accepted by famous universities abroad.

Thanks for providing so much info.  I believe that ESF secondary are quite good in standard with so many years of history, but seldom hear people comment on them.  The fee for International secondary school is quite high ($80K to 100K+ each year) as compared to local, and the system, exams are all different.  Once change to IS, it is difficult to change back.  Chinese level is also a concern.

Heard that ESF will be centralising all the applications, and will do re-zoning to balance off the demands of different zones.  Do any ESF parents know the new way of zoning?

hi all,

my daughter has been accepted to ESF TY (sep/am) and i've more or less decided to enroll her there. however, i want to know more about the kinder, especially about the teachers before i decline other available options. i was quite impressed with the facility of the ESF TY, and i like the fact that they teach Putonhua as well (though not enough to make pupils fluent in the langugage... i'll enroll her in private tutor for supplementary putonghua) only one thing--but important one-- that i don't have much first hand information is about their teachers. are they caring/loving and good at teaching children what's wrong or right etc? on the several other topics,  i see many good comments about teachers at other kinders, say, KBCK, but most of the comments on ESF TY seem to focus on their admission to ESF primaries..

i am really eager to know.

looking forward to you ladies' sharing.

URGENT

My child has just got an offer from Abacus. Can anyone give me some comments on the following?
Monday (27/6) is the deadline to submit the contract and deposit.

1. How're the teachers there?

2. Any Putonghua lessons? If yes, how frequent is it?

3. How many % of students can get a place in Clear Water Bay School?

4. If an Abacus graduate can't go to CWB Sch, can he/she be admitted/ adapt to the local schools?

5. Is there any 'one dragon' from primary sch to secondary school? Is KGV the sec sch for CWB graduates? Are they guaranteed a place?

6. How much is the school fee for secondary school?

7. Any Christian teachers/ religious studies in Abacus?

My son is now studying in yew chung.  I want him to study primary in esf.  Is it hard to enter if not studying in esf kinder?  When do I need to apply if he is born in 2003?

Have you decided to go to Abacus?

Since I live in TKO, I'm interested to apply this kinder for my son next year.  How much for the fees for school bus?
