Re: 讀國際學校有甚麼好/不好?
Dear Carolsin,
My comments will be quite positive as I like this school very much. Hope you don't mind.
1. I cannot tell you a lot for local Singapore schools as my child just attended two weeks in a famous local primary school. As the textbooks for all the Singpore schools are almost the same, my child studied there without any problem.
For SIS (Hong Kong), it's different from Hong Kong schools.
- It has less homework (no homework on Monday and Wednesday due to CCA).
- Less Examinations (1 time for P1 & P2), (2 times for P3-P6).
- Has more other formal lessons like Swimming, Speech and Drama, Dance, French....
- Less stress as no need to have competition with other schools to earn a seat in a famous local school.
- Teaching method is different from local HK schools.
SIS more concentrate in languages (learn both Putonhua and English phonics before P1 so that they can read both Chinese books and English books by themselves) and encourage learn from mistakes, read more books (even though the libarian will introduce books for my child and remeber how long my child doesn't go to libary).
- SIS is more traditional as they still emphasis on student's discplines and obedience. I don't think SIS is stress on academic results.
There are many Singaporen teachers and also many native English and Putonhua speaking teachers. My child is taught by native speaker teacher from PY1 till now (P3). Other than languages, students have chance to be taught by Singaporean teachers, esp. Maths and Science.
One of the professor from Singapore told me that they will not speak Singlish at schools. If they really did, we will not understand at all.
The conclusion is, my child can speak fluent English and Putonghua. I no need to worry about her Chinese standard. She is able to write over 200 words for Chinese Composition (P3). |
